Introduction In this case, Ken suffered a tremendous number of obstacles in different aspects including friendship, family relationship and academic. Thus, psychological problems have been occurred inside him. In the following, I would like to analyze the problems of Ken and provide some pragmatic solutions for him to overcome the problems.
Stress
According to the case, Ken was an honor student in school and participated in a lot of competitions. Ken suffered a lot of stress because he has to attain excellent results in school as well as not to disappoint anyone who has very high expectations on him. One study states the effects of academic stress appears to be most severe in students who performed well in school (Rangaswamy, 1982, cited in Abha Subba Rao, 2008). Perfectionists have an elevated risk for a variety of ailments that are caused or worsened by the stress and anxiety that perfectionism brings (Domar, 2010). We can see that Ken has a lot of stress in being a “perfectionist”.
Besides, as an honor student in school, he feels like his dignity has been demolished by his classmates after receiving the DSE results. Dignity means a person possesses the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteem (Lam, 2007). So, he is stressful to work hard to get into …show more content…

Ken should think of the reasons why the negative believes rooted so deeply in his psyche. Once he can get rid of the blockages, trust and self-acceptance will be gradually built up. Besides, being happy is one of the methods to change the harsh situation. According to Control Theory, if you want to feel different, first change your behaviors: do whatever is pleasurable, for example go out for a movie that you enjoy seeing (Smith, 2014). It means that Ken should do something that makes him happy so as to change his mood and cheer up towards the bad situations happened on
