The Story of Anvil
The Story of Anvil is a kind of documentary movie about Canadian rock metal band Anvil in 2008. The movie is based on the true story of two members of the bank Anvil in 1982’s. The movie showed the process of the band creation when all the members were just 14 years old to the time when they were all almost fifty; when they had the problems, failure, rejections to the time they accomplish and achieve their dreams.
The story is around three Canadian characters who are the members of the band: Steve “Lips” Kudlow who is the guided guitar player, Rodd Reiner on drums and Chris Roberson who works on bass. On the beginning of the movie, we saw that Kudlow works as a truck delivery for school meals. He still has the strong believe his dream that one day, his band will win. Besides that, he also has the support from his sister who trusts his talent; she encourages him

as well as his wife who has ever said that the family was so important. Rodd used to work in a sale calling job; but this job may not suitable to his personality: “I was raised to be polite”. Rodd’s sister is opposite to Lips’s sister; she does not encourage and support Rodd in pursuing his career in Anvil band. Based upon what we have seen about their current life, I can understand how they struggled with the real situation to pursue their ambition. Through back 1982’s, when the band headed up to the Super Rock festival in Japan; while the other artists such as Scorpions and Bon Jovi sold millions of records though this tour; the Anvil was left behind.
Again, the band had another chance in the Europe’s tours; but something went wrong. They lost the trains; they lost ways and did not get paid because of two hours late; they had play in the empty room with no audients; they had to sleep on the station because of running out of money. In addition, in the last festival (Monsters of Transylvania), they expected about 5000; but finally there had just 174 people showed up. Again, the band went down from failure to failure. They weren’t paid for any tours. And they have to come back to their normal jobs. It is difficult to put too much the effort, ambition and hope but the result is nothing. I think they would give up if they didn’t have enough “passion and love” as what Lips said before. Hopefully, they met a producer who agreed to support them in making records. They decided to continuous following their dream in their fifty one; they believed that they could make it happen after several decades. That is my favorite part in this movie so far; no matter how hard it was, keep trying harder as what Lips said: “Everything on
the tour went drastically wrong. But at least there was a tour for it to go wrong on.” It sounds optimism to me; and this also reflected the mindset of Lips in the viewing of life. And everything seems going right. Despite of the rejections of EMI and several companies in Canada, they were raised hope good news from Japan. This concert is amazing with large crowed; and this event marked an important highlight in their career development. I am kind of impressed in the ending of the movie; especially, when they said: “music last forever. That’s art.” In my point of view, I agree with their opinion about art. Art is variety shapes and kinds; but one thing that I love the most about this movie is the inspiration and hope in its content. It encourages everyone to live with their true souls and do not be fear to achieve the dreams.
Music served as an escape for Josh, because, as Hunt vividly describes, being a 15 year old, in the Great Depression was not an easy task. Josh, and his best friend Howie would produce beautiful music, temporarily losing themselves in the exquisite music they created. Josh and Howie were talented past their age, and they were given a role to play for the school assembly. Though their rehearsals were beneficial, they both dreaded the thought of returning home. Sadly, Stefan, Josh’s father did not feel the love he once felt toward music anymore, so he believed Josh should not spend time on luxuries such as music.

Therefore, even though narrator did not support Sonny dreams in the end he did accomplish his dream as a musician. Although the relationships are based on different events, it shows the same point that both narrator did have loves for their daughter Emily and Sonny. As a final point view family member was not be able to support cause of lack of circumstances in the family.
Mack and his Boys are a group of down-and-out but always devious men who live together in the run-down fishmeal shack, owned by Lee Chong, which they call the Palace Flophouse and Grill. Mack is their ringleader, a smart, charismatic man who can charm anyone into anything; as one of the boys says, Mack could be president of the United States if he wanted to be, but he wouldn't want to do anything like that, being of course that it wasn't fun. Mack's attempts to do things the easy way and to his advantage often get him into trouble. Eddie, another of the boys, is a substitute bartender at La Ida, the local bar. He brings home stolen bottles and a jug filled with remnants from customers' drinks; this makes him immeasurably popular all around. Hazel is perhaps the hardest working of the boys: He often accompanies Doc on collecting trips. Ironically, though, the narrative claims he was too lazy ...
This is a two-story house in red brick; the stairs access to the top floor and each floor has a single window fronting the yard; this is a house which I will pass by everyday. As an outsider from another country, I have never concerned about what would take place in those red brick houses half a century ago. However, the play Seven Guitars describes a bitter story taking place in the red brick house in Pittsburgh. In the story, someone has been suffered from the blatant discrimination; someone has betrayed his morality for chasing his dream; someone has killed his “buddy” for money; someone has lost her lover right after she decided to go away with him; some one has hidden a secret; some one has unraveled the mystery of a death, and some one has just witnessed all those things had happened. Hence, seven guitars refers to seven characters depicting the life of African-American people in the 1940s Pittsburgh, the place where I live today.
Success was hard for the Beatles started as the Quarrymen then turning into the Silver Beatles and touring through Germany playing long hours’ day and night at different clubs and venues. In fact, and article written by Andrew Romano from the Daily Beast states that one of Gladwell’s theory is revolved around Hamburg during their intense hours of playing. He states that after the Beatles had reached their point of fame during 1964, they had performed a total of twelve hundred times which Gladwell states” the idea that excellence at performing a complex task requires a minimal level of practice”. According to Gladwell this is what allowed them to become they greatest rock band of all time. Although this was Beatles point of greatness, once returning to Liverpool they still had a point to prove the world. After Brian Epstein spent many days convincing different labels, being rejected by the same record labels, changing their style, and cleaning up their act for the music industry, they were finally able to sign a label with United Kingdom’s leading music record company during May of 1962. By October of 1963, the Beatles had the opportunity to appear on the Sunday Night At the Long Palladium. During this time, if one was able to perform here you had reached a high point in the
Both songs, “A Tale of 2 Citiez” and “All Falls Down,” describe shortcuts to perceived success. They describe scenarios of young adults trying to obtain what they think success is by obtaining material possessions from taking shortcuts. Even with those descriptions of shortcuts people take, they do not promote the idea of achieving success through the shortcuts of obtaining material possessions to try to show others that they are successful since they both express regret and negative attributes related to those actions.
George Helmholtz, as the head of the music department at Lincoln High School, is very determined with his regular students and the gifted musicians of the band. Each semester and year at school he dreams of “leading as fine a band as there was on the face of the earth. And each year it came true”. His certainty that it was true was because he believed there was no greater dream than his. His students were just as confident and in response, they played their hearts out for them. Even the students with “no talent played on guts alone” for Helmholtz.
The narrator hesitates to start but goes to support his brother; while at the club Sonny introduces his brother to a few his band members like, Creole, the band leader. Once they began to perform, Sonny was a little shaky, but eventually adjusted just fine. At this moment the narrator finally saw Sonny doing what he loves, it made him look at his brother and his passion differently; the way Sonny and his band played almost brought his brother to tears. “Yet, there was no battle in his face now, I heard what he had gone through, and would continue to go through until he came to rest in earth… I saw my mother’s face again… I say the moonlit road where my father’s brother died… I saw my little girl again and felt Isabel’s tears again, and I felt my own tears begin to rise”
The movie, And the Band Played On, discusses the origin of the AIDS virus and how it spontaneously spread across the world. It used the Ebola disease to foreshadow the forth coming of another serious disease. The world was not prepared to handle such a contagious plague. Doctors around the world assumed that the first cases of the HIV virus to be just an abnormality of a certain disease, their carelessness of this matter was the start to the spread of this disease. Throughout this movie, it illustrates different points, such as the beginning of HIV, the misconceptions it gave, and the panic it aroused amongst doctors and the common people.
Thile presented a professional but laid back presence which allowed his audience to relax enough to focus on his musical abilities. Thile also escaped catastrophe through witty comments that did not avoid the troubles but instead recognized them and helped move the show forward and away from the mistakes in order to continue to appreciate his performance instead of worrying about the unavoidable flaws. In choosing to perform as a solo artist, Thile presented himself thourgh his music, allowing it to remain spontaneous and accurate to his own abilities which spoke greatly to the talented performer he is. Thile’s concert was a recognizably unrepeatable event that displayed the abilities of an artist who’s live talents demonstrate his successful musical
The movie represents a change in all of culture, including rock and roll. The mother of William represents the traditional type of mentality as it relates to rock and roll. At one time, rock and roll was considered ‘the Devil’s music’. The culture shift in rock n roll itself can be shown through capitalism. The big record companies wanted to expand the artist’s skillset in order to profit from more revenue. The pressure of the group as a whole suffered in this process.
...he essence of a grief-stricken generation, exhibited an unyielding emphasis on the importance of piercing passion over musical intricacy, and introduced the world to a vast array of gifted musicians who did not deem music as a tool to achieve recognition or financial stability. In turn, the decades that followed the rise of alternative rock have been inundated with so-called musicians whose main goal has been to get their faces plastered on magazine covers and achieve maximum public exposure, rather than devoting themselves to their craft. Consequently, the world has been left with nothing but an endless parade of shocking behavior, skimpy outfits, and mediocre music. Unfortunately, if the current state of affairs is any hint of what the future holds for music audiences, the magic generated by the nineties alternative rock will not be matched in years to come.
They were the first group to heavily tour the United States and sporadically tour the rest of the world. This occurred because there was a lack of interest in them Britain. Their success was due to their manager Peter Grant. Peter was able to keep the group moving from place to place and kept the people interested in them. Peter thought that they would work every other year so they would stay in demand. While they were working on their first movie featuring them. This movie was of the group playing their music, which was called, “The Song Remains Playing.”
The first person to play was supposed to be Sweetwater but they were stuck in traffic so Richie Havens had to open up the festival. Richie did not want to open the show and kept making up excuses but Michael Lang was not giving up he knew he could do it. At 5:07 pm he sucked it up and went out there and sang his spiritual heartwarming music. He was only suppose to do forty five minutes worth of songs but the crowd wanted more so he went back on stage and sang every song he knew. His last song was called “Freedom” everybody loved it so much that other bands had to do fantastic to compare. (Hilstrom)
