A story must have a strong plot in order to make it interesting to the readers. The plot is chain of events that make up a story. It draws a reader into the story, causing them to get hooked. Readers will recognize that the five elements of plot are essential to a good story. The elements that make up the plot are exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
The exposition begins the story by introducing the background of the story. This is where the reader learns about the characters and is introduced to the setting and the situation. An interesting story will have relatable and well likable characters. If the characters are not well developed, readers may find it harder to relate to a story. The setting is important because it is where the story takes place. This is necessary to know because sometimes it may help the story make more sense. After the exposition, the story will have rising action which draws a reader deeper into the story. The rising action consists of all the events that will lead up to the conflict. Sometimes, readers may be given hints that a problem is about to be presented later in the story. This is often called foreshadowing. The rising action allows for a smooth transition from exposition to climax.

Readers will recognize that the climax is the most interesting part of the story due to the fact that it is the most suspenseful part. The conflict also keeps a story fascinating by keeping the readers intrigued. In any good story a reader will be left on the edge of their seat, excited and curious to know what happens next. In conclusion, I would like to say that an open-ended story has much more impact and imagery than a close-ended story. An open-ended story lingers about the reader’s thoughts and to some extent dominates the reader’s imagination. The plot and theme are the two most important literary elements in a literary piece and the piece would fail heavily without a good theme or a good plot.
What elements are needed to create a good short story? As John Dufrense quoted "A good story has a visionary quality, a personal voice, a signature gesture(1969). The elements used should be used so strongly that it pulls you in; forcing you to connect to the people in the story. Not every story is written well enough to be capable of doing this. This also creates a connection with the reader; leaving some type of effect or impacting the reader along with the characters’ lives. Although there are many elements in writing but one of the greatest things of writing is the ability to make the reader empathize with the characters. This goes beyond than just a connection with the characters; when the reader is able to apprehend with the characters he or she is truly relating and reaching out to them. The author has accomplished something truly special when the reader has the ability to feel the agony that a character is feeling.
The importance of a story is to have a purpose and meaning, through this, people are able to engage and learn with what is being told to them, it has to have a connection to the past, bringing it to the present and to involve both the body and mind senses. Through storytelling the audience should gain an understanding and have a sense of emotion touched and come alive, they should also be able to explore the possibilities within their culture and feel a deep connection to country.
Near the end of all plays there is the climax, the part of the play where all the action comes together, the most important part of the play. Near the end of Measure for Measure, Isabella confronts Angelo in front of the Duke. This is the climax of the play. Although there are many important parts in Measure for Measure, by William Shakespearem, Isabella's accusations of Angelo is the most important because of the language used, the charactor development that comes out, and the emphasis of the plays themes.

To write a good novel the author needs imagery. Every detail means something and could be foreshadowing the future. Each character written about needs their own identity. You need the hero of the story, the comic relief, and the bad guy to really bring the story to life. There has to be conflict, a reason that the main character is on this quest or whatever journey they are going on during the novel. the novel needs to have a theme a reason why the author is writing the story, is it teaching you something or just about a general subject? Some authors even use events that they have went through in their life time to help portray what it is that is going on in the story.
In the story of an hour there are three subjects clearly acknowledged in the middle of this passage. The three subjects are the complications, the conflicts, and the climax.
