Our story begins on a dark, gloomy morning at an old, wooden bus stop. Here, the character of our story appears: a pale, little boy. His head was protruding forward along with his neck and shoulders. It was all those years of being on his computer that had mangled his posture. His name was Ludvig, and he was a German immigrant. The boy began to think about what the other students would think of him. Here he was, a child that had never been educated before, suddenly appearing in the 7th grade. But he just shrugged it off and hopped on the bus.

The once fragile, nervous boy was now a strong, confident man. He never did see Adeline again though, he had hoped he would magically run into her somehow, but he knew that was impossible – at least, he thought. In the markets that very same day, there she was. He confidently approached her and went to introduce himself, and much to his surprise she immediately remembered his face and who he was.
These two eventually got married and grew old together and the young girl whom Ludvig once loved so dearly, had recently passed onwards to the other world. And he was on death's door himself, sitting there out on his front porch, rocking back and forth. As he sat there he mumbled a short prayer, closed his eyes and went to sleep. "I lived a good life" he muttered with a smile as he nodded

He began talking to her like normal, but she didn't seem to completely understand him. It seems like she hadn’t been revived like he had, and almost without out warning, tears started to flow down his face. He stood up and quietly left the room, he began wandering until he found a suitable place. A cliff. If he was able to respawn again maybe he could just live his life like he did last time? Without all this drama. One step, two steps, three. He jumped. Except this time, there wasn’t another life. And thus, our story comes to an

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, by John Boyne, significantly distorts the truth of the Holocaust in order to evoke the empathy of the audience. This response is accomplished by the author through hyperbolizing the innocence of the nine-year old protagonist, Bruno. Through the use of dramatic irony, Boyne is able to both engage and involve the audience in the events of the novel. Although it is highly improbable that a son of a German high-ranking Schutzstaffel (SS) officer would not know what a Jew is and would be unable to pronounce both Fuhrer and Auschwitz, (which he instead mispronounces as ‘Fury’ and ‘Out-with’ respectively, both of which are intentional emotive puns placed by the author to emphasize the atrocity of the events), the attribution of such information demonstrates the exaggerated innocence of Bruno and allows the audience to know and understand more than him. This permits the readers to perceive a sense of involvement, thus, allowing the audience to be subjected towards feeling more dynamic and vigorous evocation of emotions and empathy towards the characters. She delves into this process thoroughly through her character of the white-haired boy. He transforms from an optimistic boy, to a hollow victim of abuse and a corrupt penal system, and finally into a man who did what was necessary to survive.
It was finally the first day of school; I was excited yet nervous. I hoped I would be able to make new friends.
