Steven Spielberg is known to be one of the innovators of the New Hollywood generation and also one of the most favored directors and producers in not only U.S film history but film history all over the world. Though Spielberg is living his dream now, it was an uphill battle for him to get to where he is currently in his career and in his personal life. Ever since he was a child, he knew that he wanted to create and direct films for all different types of audiences, but as he grew older, he began to realize that he wanted to do more than just create; he wanted to inspire. In 1975 he was given the chance to direct the now famous movie ‘Jaws’ which made his starting career flourish. The movie was a “blockbuster hit collecting more than 450 million dollars at the worldwide box office” (Success Story). The movie was delayed multiple times and the original budget skyrocketed, but through it all Spielberg’s relaxed and self-assured nature persuaded him to complete the film strongly. Two years later he went on to make ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. This movie achieved both critical and commercial acclaim. It was nominated for several Academy awards, also being nominated for the Golden Globes and the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). After that he worked with his close friend George Lucas and together the pair went on to direct ‘Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in 1981. The film “grossed more than 380 million dollars and made him one of the elite directors of Hollywood” (Success Story). A year later he directed and produced the film ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ on a budget limit of 10.5 million dollars. The film “grossed more than 750 million dollars and became the highest grossing film of all time” (Success Story). Spielberg’s success seemed to be never ending, and it was. In 1993, he directed two of the immense films in his career, ‘Jurassic Park’ and the dramatic ‘Schindler’s List’. ‘Schindler’s List’ earned him his first Academy Award for Best Director and ‘Jurassic Park’ went on to gross beyond of 900 million dollars. Later in 1998 Spielberg directed ‘Saving Private Ryan’ which gave him his second Academy Best Actor Award. After the great success of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ he directed the sequels to the ‘Indiana Jones’ Series which grossed a combined total of 2 billion dollars.
