When it comes to preconceived notions there are many diversity factors, including ethnicity, race, culture, religion, gender, and age, that can all contribute to the propensity of stereotyping in the workplace. Stereotyping can cause many negative effects, it can cause people in a workplace to treat others or groups a certain way, that is because they are based on preconceived notions about that person. I personally try my best not to stereotype anyone I come in contact with, however, at one point I did stereotype an older worker. By remembering my past experiences I infered that this person had a whole range of characteristics and abilities as all members of that age group, however, I had ignore the differences between individuals. I personally never had a problem communicating with this person, however, when I had my preconceptions about him, I just always made sure to provide him extra time and also always made sure he comprehended his tasks. For me this was time consuming, and im pretty sure he must of felt a bot weird and useless when getting this treatment. I believe that some personal communication habits that I portrayed that this person might not have understand was my tone, and me being polite. When it comes to my tone, sometimes it doesn't match what I am saying and this could make a message very unclear. While also, I am always polite to others, however, due to this person age they could have believed , that I was just trying to help them complete their task, instead of letting them show me their skills.
