Steps to Building My Destiny
In the article “The Professor Is a Dropout” written by Beth Johnson, she describes an inspirational life story created by Guadalupe Quintanilla who became an architect of her own destiny. Guadalupe Quintanilla, a first grade dropout, labeled retarded with a seemingly low IQ overcame extreme obstacles by hard work and persistence to achieve her success. In order for me to succeed, I will follow these three encouraging steps of motivation, dedication and determination that will help lead me in the right direction to succeed , and allowing myself to become an architect of my destiny in a career as a registered nurse.
The first step I will use to start building the foundation of my destiny is motivation. Like Guadalupe Quintanilla, who was motivated by love, encouragement, and setting examples for her children. I am motivated by my children’s love, and I am able to prove to them it is never too late to makes goals with determined motivation. I am highly motivated to succeed as a registered nurse, and I understand the necessary steps that will lead me to achieve my goals. The path that I will take is a complicated one, and I have to stay motivated with encouragement from my children and family. I want to show my children how to stay focused and motivated when approaching a goal. The future of my children’s lives rest on my shoulders. There have been times where I am sure my children have seen me struggle, but when I look into their faces and see their expressions, it gives me an extra push of energy and motivation to get up and continue what I started.

...d finally finish what I started five or six years ago. Life had always thrown me a curve whether it my children, work, broken down vehicles and family problems that had prevented me from going back and completing my education.
I admire Guadalupe Quintanilla because she had a difficult life from a first grade dropout, to labeled retarded and a seemingly low IQ who conquered all obstacles that stood in her path to success by hard work and persistence. Guadalupe Quintanilla shaped her success and became an architect of her own instilled destiny. To be the architect of one’s destiny there are encouraging steps I will follow like motivation, dedication and determination to keep me on track to successful career as a registered nurse. Like Guadalupe Quintanilla did I can also overcome all obstacles thrown in my path which will lead me to my success and destiny.
This was one of the main aspects that brought me to this crossroad that I am at now and that I faced at the beginning of my college career. When I decided to go to college I wanted to be a doctor, so that is how I started out. Looking at the challenges ahead of me on that path I did some research and decided to change paths and pursue a career in Health Services. In health services I can still help people the way I like and it also fits into my plan for myself. With what makes me myself I look at the crossroad I am at now and all I think to do is to keep moving forward and straight. Looking back is a different me and going left or right provides many new challenges, so forward is my only option. Even though I will run into many other crossroads and challenges on my current path, I feel the way I am put together I can overcome anything that comes my
People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?
“It always seems impossible until it’s done”. This quote from Nelson Mandela comes to mind when describing why I aspire to become a Physician Assistant. It has always been a great motivation and inspired me not to get discouraged with failure; rather look forward for your goals. Frequently, it takes many trials and lack of success as well as achievements, for one to truthfully discover him/herself. I instinctively progressed through the motions of life. Many options were available and choosing a career as I grew up kept altering, until one day when I saw how helping other people is my sole purpose of life. Getting to know more of physician assistant drove me into the thoughts of pursuing it as a career.
If everyone thinks that without struggle, it is easy to obtain their goals that is entirely false. Struggle comes from the progress of our success and achievement. It is an indication that we poured all of our time and patience into the things we pursue. Jeannette Walls, the author of The Glass Castle, explain her struggles. She survives by finding foods from the trash can and earns money by babysitting, exchanging scrap metal, finding jobs, and from her parents. As a graduating student from high school, receiving my diploma is an indication that I ...

“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
1. As I grew up, I never really knew what career path I wanted to take. The thought that scared me was that whatever I did decide to choose, it was going to be what I would do for the rest of my life. When my freshman year in college came around, I majored in nursing. However, I never was fully certain that nursing was something that I truly wanted to pursue. I felt like the only reason I chose nursing to begin with was because my mother is a nurse. I thought about it for a while and realized that I shouldn’t choose nursing as my major just because my mother is a nurse, instead, I needed to choose a major because I have a real compassion and desire for it.
When I was in elementary school teachers would ask students the generic question of what they wanted to be when they grew up. Immediately, I would respond I wanted to be a nurse. Now, I am an undergraduate student in college and still my answer has not changed. As I embark on this rigorous journey to become a nurse, I have started to consider how I will undertake the practice of nursing and what personal values I will incorporate into my professional values. When I am a practicing nurse, I plan to reflect on the role models that inspired me to become a nurse, incorporate my own personal strengths and talents, integrate Gonzaga’s mission into my own values, and contribute to the profession of nursing through social justice.

I’ve always had a passion for children and have always loved medicine since I was seven years old. . Growing in God and trying to follow the path has been a tough but a rewarding one. Over the past two years, I went from being a biology major because my credits wouldn’t transfer over to nursing because I would not give up my dream to take care of children in the medical field. I chose nursing to continue the dream I’ve had since I was seven years old that I have never given up on. I am a diligent hard working person. I won’t give up on my dreams no matter how hard it is. Strategies I plan to use to accomplish my goal is to disregard and put an immediate stop to negative thoughts that may try to undermine what I’m striving for. In addition to this I will also “lose the guilt”, by, not allowing myself to beat myself up if I don 't do something correctly the first time. I 'll get back up and persevere through. I feel as a nursing student these strategies will help me succeed as a nursing student. I push through no matter how hard it is and I know with God by my side I 'll never fail and as long as I continue to have faith I know I will never
...tivation, master self-management, adopt lifelong learning, and accept personal responsibility as my own. Keeping these all in my mind to will be guaranteed a bright future. Putting my mind to it will help motivate me on my journey to success. Knowing motivation will help me have the energy to overcome the obstacles of life, being organized and knowing what I have to do to succeed, finding the positive in every situation to gain wisdom for the future, and openly understand that it is only my responsibility to take care of my success and nobody else’s. Doing all four of these strategies through my voyage will give me the assurance that my mind needs to get through it. Being positively sure that I will and can get through this.
Someone once asked me what I believed in, what I wanted to get out of life and where I saw myself a couple of years from now…I was speechless, just standing there with a blank look upon my face, guess I looked like a deer in the headlights. At first I was outraged for not knowing what to say, and then I became concerned. Looking back I can say that I was afraid, afraid of wanting anything. I figured wanting would lead to trying and trying would lead to failure, and failure is not an option. A friend once told me I was much better than I thought I was, and he would help me do more in a positive sense, he was the one that helped me realize failure was something I shouldn’t be afraid of.
To begin with, I would like to describe my mom’s ambition. She wakes up every morning with the positive attitude, and a smile on her face. She is always searching for ways to improve her persona, and live a happier life. About five years ago my mother, my sister and I moved from Ukraine here to the United States. The first year in the United States was tough for us because we did not know English, however, we all worked hard and today we speak English fairly well. Since we moved from Ukraine, my mom has worked really hard to give my sister and I the lifestyle we have. My mom’s ambition to succeed in life has allowed her to grow into a wonderful person full of kindness and knowledge. Ambition is a great virtue to have, and that is one reason why my mother is my role model. My mother is a hard worker, she never...
“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort” (Owens). Without any determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort dreams will not turn into reality. People should look forward and push for that reality. Anyone can say they will fulfill their dream, but it takes someone with dedication, determination and effort to accomplish that dream. Effort is the key to success. Effort is like the sugar and spice to everything nice. Without any push of effort for the dream to become reality dedication, determination and self-discipline don’t take place. The dream drives people to accomplish the unexpected.
