Cover to Cover Janet Evanovich has been writing the well-known Stephanie Plum series for twenty years, which is longer than I have been alive. In my birth year, 1997, she wrote the third book in the series, Three to Get Deadly, and seventeen years later Evanovich wrote Top Secret Twenty-One. Several people would believe after twenty-one books with the same protagonists, Evanovich would begin to become redundant; however, the two novels are vastly different in terms of character relationships and antagonists. In the 1997 novel, Three to Get Deadly, the main character, Stephanie Plum, is a bounty hunter, and she is assigned with the task of bringing Trenton’s favorite citizen, Uncle Mo, back to jail. Uncle Mo is the antagonist in this book. He is arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, but when he does not show for his court appearance, Stephanie has to find him. Although Uncle Mo runs an ice cream and candy shop, he does a few odd jobs on the side, including killing drug dealers and burying them in his cellar. Although he is killing people, the citizens of Trenton try to protect Uncle Mo from Stephanie by threatening her multiple …show more content…

The theme of the article “An Irongirl’s Story” is to finish is to win. This is shown various times throughout the story. This theme also means that you should be more focused on accomplishing your goals than beating someone else's.

Throughout the play She Kills Monsters, different feelings and opinions arose. Primarily, it was not appealing to my taste of genres, and I couldn’t care less about what appeared to be a nerdy play, additionally it made me feel puzzled. Secondly, the play was entertaining and humorous. Lastly, the role-playing of the characters in this world of fantasy was amusing and enlightening. Although the play’s genre was fantasy and adventure, I speculated that it illustrated important values that we should incorporate in our lives.
“Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair. - Anonymous”. If you have ever felt isolated from society, or feel that you are constantly begging for the mercy of your own subconscious, then you know the pain accompanied by expending trust. It is imperative for humanity to cultivate trust; if we lose it, we will simply degenerate into insanity. For instance, in the texts “On the Sidewalk Bleeding”, “The Tell-Tale Heart” as well as “The Landlady”, characters were tasked with uncovering the role that trust plays in conquering challenges. In doing so, they also suffered through fluctuating degrees of tailored hardships.
This movie is one that I have always enjoyed and watching it in class gave me a new appreciation for it. The storybook, introduced into the movie by the grandfather, was the first motif that caught my eye. At first you don’t think much about it but it’s a great representation of so many different things. First off, the boy’s reaction to unwrapping the book is one shared by so many kids in today’s society. A book is seen as somewhat of a chore rather than an indulgence or hobby. The grandfather sets the scene to transition into the actual story with the book. Starting the first scene in the boy’s bedroom gives the movie a sense of realism and one that is relatable. The book gave the movie a whole new dimension that I appreciate and commend the directors and authors for creating. The book also represents tradition in their family. It was read to several generations and symbolizes the love that the fathers and grandfathers have for their children. It shows great patience and the desire to spend time with a loved one to read them a book. That is a gift that is slowly being lost as time g...
The book “My Favorite Chaperone” written by the author Jean Davies Okimoto has a very good theme. The theme which is also known as the message in this story is that you should be patience with people even if bad things are going on because something good can always come out of whatever situation you are in. This is like how in the story the family was having some struggles after moving and Maya really wanted to go the dance and in the end she got too. This stories setting was at Maya’s school and her house for the most part. The main characters in the story were Maya, Mama, Papa, Nurzhan, Aunt Madina, and Daniel. There were also many other characters but these were the main ones. Maya is definitely the main character because there isn’t a single
The characters in the novel, including the operative himself are willing to lie, cheat, and kill in cold blood for their own personal gain. Although infidelity, greed, and self-preservation are expected from characters involved with the murders and inner crime ring; the story becomes more complicated when characters like the operative, and chief of police begin to get their hands dirty. Bringing the age-old crime ad punishment theme to a higher tier where the reader is unable to make an impulsive decision on who is a “bad guy”, and who is a “good
There are various themes in Ransom Riggs novel Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. However the theme that stuck out the most to me, was the idea of being "different". Throughout the novel, Jacob meets all sorts of peculiar people such as girls that can control plants and invisible boys. It was because of their peculiar talents that the children were outcasts and hunted by others. It was because they were different. But what does that mean? What does it mean to different? Is it because you don't fit a certain stereotype? Is it because you don't fit into a certain category? In today's society people have set an idea, a certain image of what a person is supposed to be, and if you don't reach that expectation you're sub-par or not good
addition, she has also written a dystopian sequel, The Quartet which consists of four books:
“Well, I know that I’m going to screw Jason, just as soon as his plane touches down in Virginia. As for Boogie, I don’t think I’m going to pursue him after I rejected him already. I am very curious about Diamond, though. I would like to know where they met and how often he’s been with her” I said. “Honey, trust me you don’t want to know about the personal stuff because you’ll never be able to get it out of your head” Latria assured, as she continued to dig in her purse. “What on earth are you looking for?” I asked as Latria pulled out some crumpled
Nightjohn can teach us many things with it’s themes. Gary Paulsen incorporates themes in his story to help push the narrative of the book. While they are all noteworthy, these three themes are the most prominent. Bravery, leadership, and perhaps most of all, prejudice.

In the movie Mean Girls the theme helps the audience grasp insights about how society is ran in today’s world.
Fascination with the crime fiction and socially deviant characters has hit an all-time high. Rachel Franks author of “A Taste for Murder: The Curious Case of Crime Fiction,” states “it has been estimated that as many as one in every three new novels, published in English, is classified within the crime fiction category” (1). Yet a quick glance at the evidence Franks presents might makes it difficult for some to believe. People like John Sutherland a former chairman of the
An uncomplicated life based on one’s needs rather than their wants is not to be taken for granted. The author of The Pearl, John Steinbeck centers his novel on this theme. The novel focuses on Kino, an unwealthy diver, who’s baby gets stung by a scorpion, so he must find a way to pay for a doctor. One day Kino finds the pearl of the world, his first intention is to use the pearl to pay for medical expenses however, the pearl ends up creating many problems for Kino. Although readers believe that Juana choose correctly to give the pearl back to Kino, she should have disposed of the pearl when she had the opportunity to but it is understandable as to why some may believe
