On April 12, 2018, the Philadelphia police received a 911 call from the Starbucks at 19th and Spruce Street, alleging disturbance and trespassing of two African American men. The two men, Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson entered the Starbucks and asked to use the restroom, but were denied access because they had yet to purchase anything. Almost immediately the headlines were covered with the idea surrounding boycotting all Starbucks stores because of their racist employees and environment. It is essential to analyze and collect various perspectives of the unfortunate event that occurred in one of our stores, especially now that the perception of racism is reflecting on the Starbucks franchise. In order to suppress calls for a national boycott of our stores nation and global-wide, our company has decided to lose millions of dollars by shutting …show more content…
Focusing in on the meaning of what a coffee shop stands for, it is encompasses a third space that makes everyone feel welcomed when they walk inside the door of the coffee shop. Coffee shops have the environment to allow for common meeting spaces and bring the common folk together to become unified in a central location. The incident that occurred in Philadelphia should be a wake-up call to see that we need to focus not just on customer service, but on people care, whether the customer is buying something or just meeting a friend. There are potential risks that are seeping in on our franchise. For one, other coffee shops are gaining an increase in customers, which is a prominent example of why customer service scandals lead to a decrease in revenue. Secondly, even though our franchise has decided on such an ambitious program to close domestic shops, that does not mean that it is going to fix the issue behind this racism
In the articles “Implicit racial bias often begins as early as preschool, a study finds” and “Research suggests the gender gap in math starts as early as kindergarten”. The central idea in the two articles are that girls and black students are treated unfairly. There are similarities and in how they develop the idea of how some students are discriminated against. However there are many differences in how they develop the central idea. There are studies that back up both accusations of black students and girls being treated differently in the classroom.
Josh Feuerstein, the man who brought this to the attention of the nation, pushed for a fight against Starbucks. He simply posted a video calling for some “revolt” against Starbucks for the world to see. It was seen, reposted, liked, and commented on, and thus an entire movement was ignited. We live in a time where we can post our feelings and opinions openly and start a discussion. This "controversy" was somewhat ridiculous, but it started a discussion.
Aliza Wolf Mrs. Fanous 9 Honors Period B 5/16/24 Title For some, it is quite surprising that the area they live in today may likely be a result of systemic racism and redlining rather than an active choice they make. It’s hard to believe that historically Black or redlined areas experience 50% greater pollution today than white neighborhoods (Wamsley). Lorraine Hansberry saw that housing discrimination and redlining made it extremely difficult for African Americans to live outside of redlined areas, which motivated her to write about her experiences and struggles with these issues in A Raisin In The Sun. Unfortunately, the lasting effects of racism cause African Americans to remain in redlined areas with poor conditions as seen in recent studies
Starbucks not only shapes a defined importance on its product, the coffee, but also the relationships on its partners, its customers and its shareholders to create diversity, “to create a place where each of us can be ourselves” (Starbucks Coffee), to treat all related partners with dignity and respect at the greatest corporate level. Starbucks is currently the industry leader in specialty coffee. They purchased more high quality coffee beans than anyone else in the world and keep in good standings with the producers to ensure they get the best beans. Getting the best beans is only the first part, Starbucks also has a “closed loop system” that protects the beans from oxygen immediately after roasting to the time of packaging. They did this through their invention of a one-way valve which let the natural gasses escape but keeping oxygen out. This gave them the unique ability to ensure freshness and extended the shelf life to 26 weeks. Starbucks isn’t only about the coffee, it’s also about a place where people can escape to enjoy music, reflect, read, or just chat. It is a total coffee experience. The retail outlet has been responsible for much of Starbucks growth and has contributed substantially to their brand equity.

Moving on, Starbucks Corporation proves that consumers can trust them because one of the main goals of the company is ethical service, their goal is to serve the customers with less than three minutes. The author said, “Starbucks’ “Just Say Yes” policy empowered partners to provide the best service possible, even if it required going beyond company rules” (Moon). Having this policy shows that the company tries to make customers satisfied. Also, it is ethical to have this policy because service is a key that makes the company successful. For example, if the customer spilled a drink, he/she can ask for another one. Additionally, if a customer does not have cash or credit and wants to pay by check, he/she will get a simple drink for

Racism has been a problem since before you and I were born. Racism in the workplace can cause lowered pay, aggressive behavior, and overall bad feeling in the minds of the person affected. This can become bad for the employer and society. Racism still plays a part in certain workplaces when it comes to people getting the job that they would like. Learning how to deal with racism during these situations can also be challenging. When looking for a job, you would want a job that is going to treat you equality and fairness as everyone else. Racism in the workplace has caused many problems in different ethnic groups.
Starbucks recently was involved in a case where two African American men went into a Starbucks store to use the restroom, the manager told them they had to purchase something or they had to leave. They were waiting for someone when the manager called the police who escorted the men out of the coffee shop. The question is was this because of their skin color, I like many people think it was because of their skin color. The company has taken actions to prevent this in the future “STARBUCKS OFFICIALS will close more than 8,000 U.S. stores on May 29 to conduct
One way to work on diversity within organizations is diversity training. According to Risberg et al. (2012) training initiatives are meant to create awareness, where the apprentices are introduced to different values, behaviors and norms in order to foster interaction with people from different backgrounds and create a certain level of tolerance. The trainings are also aimed to create skills for a diverse work environment, where the participants are prepared to face and handle diversity on a daily basis at their work places (Risberg, Beauregard, & Sander, 2012). However, the impacts of the trainings in the individuals are difficult to measure and control, since the knowledge learned is difficult to place in everyday work life.
Many activist and social groups strive to promote end to racism but the reality hits it never ends. The old saying, “History repeats itself, it is (His) (Story)”. Our ancestors faced challenges with racism but it was under different circumstances. In modern times in the 21st century we see acts of racism in many forms such as gun violence, racial slurs, discrimination in workplace,
Any effective solution to eradicating American racism must involve
