The average students in the U.S. takes about 112 standardized test between pre-kindergarten and twelfth grade. That does not include the course quizzes, test, assessments, SAT or ACT. There are many things wrong with today's standardized test, but the main topics to focus on when it comes to those test are, the amount of test students take, the lack of feedback, and diversity, the value of creativity, and the false sense of security.

students”. They usually consist of multiple choice, true or false and short answer questions. Many may argue that standardized testing is good for students because you can compare the performance levels of students and know where to assess them but actually it’s very unreliable, students aren’t given any guidelines based on their test. The problem with having everyone taking the same test is that not everyone is a good test taker.
Standardized test create stress and anxiety. Some kids can cope well with stress while others can’t, which makes the test unfair. Too much stress is harmful, both psychologically and physically. Too much stress can cause the brain to change into a fight or flight response, making it even harder to think properly through 1-3 hour test
Another problem with standardized testing is both students and teachers can cheat. Teachers cheat by boosting the test score of theirs students because they know that if they have a larger number of students with low grades, they could either lose their job or their salary could get affected. Students are will to do whatever they can to pass standardized test, including staying up late to study and/or cheat. Staying up will cause them to be drowsy during the test, and could affect their performance.
The fact that students don’t get anything out of taking the test is a problem. Students should be provided with feedback on how to do better on their next test. But instead they are handed back their test after a couple month with their
score. Standardized tests have been around for quite a while now, and are used by a large number of schools. These tests are developed by large educational companies, and because they are distributed to such a large number of schools, they’re used as a standard with which to compare students from the state in which they reside, or across the U.S. Most of these tests are fill in the bubble, multiple-choice, versus essay tests, which are more expensive for the schools to have graded. Some of the better known standardized tests are: SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), ACT (American College Test), CAT (California Achievement Test), ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills), and TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills).

This is all because of a simple rectangular piece of paper that has the words standardized test written on it in big, bold, black letters. These are just some of the signs of test anxiety, all so teachers, schools, and students can be compared to one another. Standardized testing is wrong and uneducational. Some would ask why this is erroneous, when the schools get money if the students do well on these tests. This is amiss because of three simple reasons. One, standardized testing does not work. Two, standardized tests only measure a small portion of why makes education meaningful. Finally three, standardized testing causes severe stress in younger students.
Standardized testing caters to one population of people and one style of learning. These tests are supposed to measure if you are on your grade level but can be extremely ineffective. I remember taking the SAT and them asking questions that I did not know how to solve and it was so long that it made me not want to take it. This creates a problem for students because they figure why take a test I know I am going to fail and that take hours to take. The success rate for that is very low. These tests cater to people that a tolerant enough to sit down for hour and comprehend the work in one particular way but everyone is not tolerant enough for it. Standardized testing is something all students fear no matter what grade they are in. Whether they are in elementary school and middle school and have to fear the ELAs or Regents exams, or in high school and fear the SATs, PASTs, APs, ACTs etc. Even with standardized testing being as feared as they are students are still being conformed to take them. There are many ways students are being confirmed to take them, one being that they are impulsed. It 's either a student takes the standardized test or fears that 's they will be left behind. For instance, some colleges will not even accept students if they have no taken SATs. This helps prove the point that each adolescent is taking some sort of standardized test, even if they do not want to. Also, they begin to conform students to take standardized testing as early as kindergraden. Thinking on kindergraden many think about coloring, reading on the big red carpet with the teacher as well as just having fun being a kid. But now even kindergraderners are feeling the wrath of conformity down their necks because of standardized testing. At my high school all students in the tenth grade were required to take the Graduation Qualifying Exam. Many students did not pass the test their first time, and were forced to go through the test up to four more times, and if they did not pass the test in this amount of time, they did not graduate.
