Saint Augustine once said, "What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like" (Xplore Inc). Through this love that Saint Augustine describes, we can have courage to stand up for others and assist them when it is deemed necessary. One way I have helped my community is through helping Saint Marys Parish with an Easter egg hunt. The nature of this project, why I chose to do this service, how my service has improved another's life, and other service opportunities I could have enjoyed doing are all reasons why this service has been done. The nature of this service project is essential in understanding why this project has been done. During this service project of helping with the St. Marys Parish Easter egg hunt, I had many …show more content…
By allowing Christ to work through me, I had tried to also to imitate Christ's example. Personally, the part that I thought was the most satisfying and enjoyable to see was when all of the children left with their baskets filled with candy and smiles on their faces. It was more than just taking home a basket of candy. It was about spending time with the church community and family. Lastly, based on this project, it influenced me to possibly try new service projects in the future which are similar to this one. I may want to help bake some sort of treat for an organization or event in the future, similarly to how people had brought cookies that they had made to put on the table for the egg hunt. Also, I may want to do something with children in the future such as to help be a teen group leader at the week-long Vacation Bible School over the summer. I may even just want to help in setting up or cleaning up some sort of event in the
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
I am a 17 year old senior in high school and was asked to participate in creating and executing a community service project. My first reaction is to talk to my mother, she is very involved in the community and would have some good ideas. The one that stood out to me was doing a coat drive! Last year we did a small one that ended up providing mostly adult women’s coats. This year an organization that I’ve been a part of for four years, HOSA, is doing a coat drive and I’ve asked if I could piggy back on their project. The person in charge of the coat drive is Bailey Clark, she is the current president of HOSA. HOSA is a great organization that prepares high school students for working in the medical community after graduating.
I had learned lots of new things this year and especially this semester in U.S. History Since 1877. This history course required all students to complete twenty hours of service learning or to write a term paper. After considering the two options, I decided to give the service learning a chance because I thought it would be an interesting experience. There were a variety of projects to choose from, but I felt that the Sustainability Project was the right fit for me.
Selecting to do my service learning at Harvest Hope Food Bank was a very impactful experience. This was so, because of the fact that I have never volunteered at a food bank until now. The organization was able to connect me with the required skills I will practice throughout my career as a professional social worker, therefore better preparing me for assisting clients who may be dependent on my services.
I chose to do my service learning project at Feed My Starving Children. I chose this service learning project because I had prior knowledge and experience by doing it with my family and church. Feed My Starving Children has been a huge impact to those who have participated in this service experience because their mission is to pack meals that go to very hungry children around the world. Being from a single parent family, it is hard for us to not be concerned about where the money for food is coming from, yet we have food on our tables for everyday meals. Therefore, I can’t imagine what it is like for those who experience hunger.
This conception of love can be traced back to the first chapters of the Bible, Genesis. Adam and Eve, in the garden of Eden, eat the forbidden fruit and are forever outcast from paradise, forced to suffer. The puritans argued that, if God wishes us to suffer, who are we to go against his wishes. We are sinners, because of the Original Sin, and it was Eve who gav...
I spent every spring and summer in middle school doing mission work and community service. I loved the opportunity that it gave me to build relationships and share my beliefs with people I didn’t know. Little did I know that this would pave the way for a life-changing experience that I would encounter one day. Each spring my church would host a missionary event called “The Ignite Project.” I felt an urge to join the group, recognizing that it was a calling to profess my faith in Jesus. These mission trips helped me to go out
Life is full of influences by those around them, and by the potential deaths of those around them can do great harm. Love can go a long way and is more powerful than many understand, and it can have an everlasting effect on people whether they wish to be or not.
Another service that I have done has been to volunteer at the West Campus Hospital gift shop. It was a great experience for me; if I had the time I would make the effort to volunteer again. For people that is good at socializing with others and love organizing I would recommend volunteering at the gift shop.
love does not exist in this world then the people who live on it will
Love is arguably the most powerful emotion possessed by mankind; it is the impalpable bond that allows individuals to connect and understand one another. Pure love is directly related to divinity. Without love, happiness and prosperity become unreachable goals. An individual that possesses all the desired superficial objects in the world stands alone without the presence of love. For centuries love has been marveled by all that dare encounter it. Countless books and poems have been transcribed to explain the phenomenon of love, but love surpasses all intellectual explanations and discussions. Love is not a definition, but rather a thought, an idea. This idea, the idea of love, burns inside us all. Instinctually, every soul on Earth is
When I think about the person I want to become I think about a kind person who wants to make a difference in the world. I want to help and Inspire others and In general just make this world a more positive and loving place. The personal project was an opportunity to not only do something for myself but for others. By doing this I would be able to reach my goal of being the person I wish to become someday by helping others and spreading my positivity. I decided on feeding the homeless because with this I would be able to help others in need and hopefully inspire or make them happy. Feeding the homeless won 't necessarily change the world, but small acts of kindness like this might inspire other people to do them too and If everyone decided to
Love is not a god as the fine philosophers of Greece once suggested. Love is something far more powerful and universal, for not all people believe in gods, yet people cannot refuse the existence of love. Instead, love is a condition of the human body that cannot be denied. True love is obstinate; in the way that music pours into the ears of an audience, love pouring into the heart of a man cannot be stopped, denied, or set off course. Love is a natural instinct. You cannot artificially make love where there is none or where it does not belong. Yet, the condition of being in love grows independent of all rationale. It grows places where an observer may not understand its existence. Attempting to fight love in such a situation leaves even powerful and noble families, such as the Capulets and Montagues, suddenly powerless. When love takes control of two souls, it takes the lovers on a journey. The journey is the growth of love throughout its many progressive stages. In this way, the growth of love between two people is analogous to the growth and development of a painted masterpiece. A work of art and a bond of love both have distinct stages and characteristics. A painting initially begins with a vision in the mind of the artist. This vision is a perfect vision that the artist will strive to replicate on her canvas. Similarly, love often begins on a visual level based on the physical attractions between two people. The vision of the painter is soon transformed into quick, loose sketches. The pencil freely marks the page; the artist has no control over where it goes, he merely paints. Similarly, lovers have no control over their new feeling of love that has taken over their bodies and rendered them helpless. After an artist has loos...
Love is the basis of every day life, and it gives us the power to feel so affectionately
It gave me the chance to see how other people worship or fulfill their spiritual need. I was able to see and get a better understanding of the things that go on. It seems that we all share the same goals. To be good people, listen and receive the Word of God and to go out and spread to other people what we have been
