It was April, 2013. I was so excited because my taekwondo instructor had just given me my letter that said I had qualified in sparring and combat sparring for the District Championships for the American Taekwondo Association. One of the coolest things was that my mom and brother had also qualified. We were going to get to go compete together for the chance at District Titles. This was brand new and the first year ever for Districts. That May we loaded up our gear and uniforms and headed to Mesquite. It was the day for Districts. I was at the Mesquite Convention Center. I found my ring and I had to sit through forms and weapons. It was nerve wracking. Then it was finally time. The judges bowed us in and gave us the order. I was putting on my sparring gear. I was getting ready to spar because I was the first to go. One of the first things that happened was that I won my first sparring match. Then my friends won their matches. Sean, one of the guys in my ring then won his match. We all moved on to the next round. I won my second match and then Sean won his second match. Dylan also won his match so he got third place. Sean and I …show more content…
I got a bye to the next round so I would not have to spar in the first round. When the second round started, I really excited cause I won my first match again. Then I watched Sean win his match. Dylan and Ryan also won their matches. We moved on to the third round. I beat Dylan and Sean beat Ryan. Sean and I waited for Dylan and Ryan to face off for third place. Dylan ended up winning. Then Sean and I faced off for first and second. I was in the lead and then Sean came back and we were tied 8-8. Then time ran out so it went to next point wins. We were striking each other and missing. So, we kept going back and forth and then we hit each other at the same time. Unfortunately for me, the judges thought Sean hit first so they gave him the points and he won. He got first again, and I got
Those few more seconds passed, and the starter called us all to the line. He then placed us in our assigned lanes, and we
We warmed up and it was finally game time. We were the away team, so we got to hit first.
Again I was here to work and be my best. Half way into practice coach asked “who (faces off)”? I raised my hand because why not? We went to the other side of the felid and I watched before I volunteered to (face off). Seemed easy enough for me so I gave it my all.
So, I got ready for my next match, which was against Jeff Petro from Wray, CO. As we warmed up in the same corner, I looked at him with some fear to tell you the truth. This guy was ripped, ...
nobody truly won. As the famous saying goes “The truth always comes out in the wash” and here
The server on the other team once again threw the ball into the air. This time, my teammate sprawled for the ball, and made a perfect pass to me, allowing me to set the ball and have my co-captain smash it to the ground. I looked once again at the faces of my teammates. Things were different now. I knew at once that they knew what I knew. We were the winners of that game. We remembered that at that point, and were assured of it when the referee blew the final whistle after I served an ace on game point.
After qualifying at regionals in Montrose to go to state I was so happy. When I arrived at state wrestling in Denver I was so excited. I hardly got any sleep that night. I was so ready to enjoy the hard fruits of my labor. I told myself I was not only up here to win state, but I was also there to enjoy myself.
It was a warm April day and all of the students were let out of school for the day. I went home to finish packing with the help of my parents making sure that I had everything and I wasn 't forgetting. I was excited for a week now to go on the trip to Washington D.C. with the whole 8th grade class for a week.
My hands get clammy and emotions are running wild. When they call my team we all run out frantically and realize there's one last chance with this team, one last chance with this routine, some athletes final shot at the state championship! The lights gleam bright and it is time to do my job and put faith in my team to do the same. Two minutes and thirty seconds go by and that's the end of it all… walking off the mat knowing I did the best I can do and the rest is in the judge's hands. Sitting at awards, waiting desperately as they call each team third, second, and first place goes to Carrollton high school! The drop of my stomach and the tears that ran down my face. I was so shocked all the fame and victory made all the hard work worth
done with his segment everyone was applauding and it was obvious he was the winner, due to the fact
I first stared down my opponent as I walked to the center of the mat. I glanced at him I got the feeling that I was probably stronger than him so I knew I would need to make the first move and go strong in the beginning. We got to the center of the mat and the referee gave the signal to shake hands and at that moment I knew I was ready. I isolated my mind from who was around me and only saw my opponent in front of me. I started getting angry in my mind and thought to myself “It's either going to be him or me who we be victorious.”. As we shook each others hand, I squeezed my hand as hard as I could and can feel that he did too. The whistle blew, our first instinct was to lock arms and get a feel for each other and test our
Once upon a time, I qualified for the Tae Kwon Do State Championships, to go to the Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics in Orlando, Florida. It was my second year at the Jr. Olympics, and I was competing in two events. Sparring and forms. Forms has always been my favorite, partly because I was pretty good at doing them. Sparring was okay. I guess.
The votes had to be perfectly cast. Tiffani and I asked people and some said they voted for me the first time and Tiffani the second or vice versa. If anyone had voted differently, the outcome would have changed dramatically. What is crazy, though, is how my mind had never even conceived the idea that the votes would be tied. I was the one close-minded this time and just look at what happened!
It was in the beginning of 2010. I graduated to tenth grade, the senior year of the school. My emotions were driven by both anxiety and exultation. Since the final score in the tenth grade was a yardstick of our knowledge-gained and hard-work done throughout our schooling, all of us were concerned. However, the feeling of freedom after the tenth grade kept us elated. Those memories are quite vivid in my memory.
Next, we went down to the bleachers and watched the rest of the teams from our section. I was amazed at how good their routines were and how many people were on their’ teams. Before I knew it the awards ceremony was up. We got down from the bleachers and sat in a circle on the gym floor. Surround by about twenty other teams sitting exactly like we were. My heart was pulsing loudly, and my hands were shaking. I was super nervous. The announcer said,” In 3rd place, the team from Decorah.” Everyone cheered. Once it is quiet again he said,” In 2nd place the team from Cresco.” Then after everyone was done cheering the announcer said,” Drumroll please.” We all started a drumroll loudly on the floor. Then he said, “ In first place…” Everyone went silent from the anticipation. The gym was still. It's not going to be our team we did our best that is what matters. Then he finished “, The team from West Union!” I immediately jumped up and started hugging everyone around me. “ I can’t believe we won!” I said to the person next to
