Introduction

On page 329 of our text it shows different age groups with the five leading causes of death for each group. The age group I chose to discuss are the ages of 50-54 years old, with the leading cause of death to be Cancer which has a 29.8% death rate. I chose to discuss this cause of death because it’s a close issue to my heart. When my mother was 50, just last year, the Doctor’s found a soft tissue sarcoma on her that had to be surgically removed. Luckily, the cancer hadn’t metastasized to her lymph nodes so she wasn’t in need of Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment. In this discussion, I will discuss the potential causes and possible preventions of Adult Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The American Cancer Society discusses how cancer forms and effects people in an article titled, “What is Cancer?”

Soft tissue sarcomas can develop from fat, muscles and nerves, fibrous tissues, and blood vessels and can be found in any part of the body. The American Cancer Society's estimates that about 11,930 people will be diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcomas in 2015 and 4,870 of those people are expected to die from the disease. These statistics were projected from adults and children. It has been found that a few risk factors that make a person more likely to develop Soft Tissue Sarcomas are; exposure to radiation, certain family cancer diagnosis, a damaged lymphatic system, and exposure to certain chemicals. However, it has been found that certain injuries and lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet, and exercise have not been linked to the risk of Soft Tissue
