Introduction
On page 329 of our text it shows different age groups with the five leading causes of death for each group. The age group I chose to discuss are the ages of 50-54 years old, with the leading cause of death to be Cancer which has a 29.8% death rate. I chose to discuss this cause of death because it’s a close issue to my heart. When my mother was 50, just last year, the Doctor’s found a soft tissue sarcoma on her that had to be surgically removed. Luckily, the cancer hadn’t metastasized to her lymph nodes so she wasn’t in need of Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment. In this discussion, I will discuss the potential causes and possible preventions of Adult Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The American Cancer Society discusses how cancer forms and effects people in an article titled, “What is Cancer?”
Discussion
Cancer is a group of more than 100 different diseases that are characterized by an uncontrolled cellular growth, local tissue invasion, and metastasis. (). When we are born we all are born with normal cells that grow until adulthood, we are also born with abnormal

cells. When we begin to reach the adulthood stage our body cells stop dividing because we have reached our maximum growth and these normal cells will only divide to replace damaged cells. However, the abnormal cells we are born with can continue to divide and can form pre cancerous or cancerous cells and cancer will form from the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. According to the American Cancer Society, a sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops from certain tissues, like bone or mus.
Soft tissue sarcomas can develop from fat, muscles and nerves, fibrous tissues, and blood vessels and can be found in any part of the body. The American Cancer Society's estimates that about 11,930 people will be diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcomas in 2015 and 4,870 of those people are expected to die from the disease. These statistics were projected from adults and children. It has been found that a few risk factors that make a person more likely to develop Soft Tissue Sarcomas are; exposure to radiation, certain family cancer diagnosis, a damaged lymphatic system, and exposure to certain chemicals. However, it has been found that certain injuries and lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet, and exercise have not been linked to the risk of Soft Tissue
Sarcoma. Although any type of cancer can sometimes seem like the inevitable, there are many prevention steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. These include; staying away from tobacco, staying at a healthy weight, regular physical activity, eating healthy, limiting your alcohol intake, protect your skin from sun exposure, and most importantly, know yourself, your family history, and your risks and be sure to get regular check-ups and cancer screening tests. The only way to prevent some Soft Tissue Sarcomas is to avoid exposure to some of these risk factors. Most sarcomas can develop in people that don’t have any known risk factors, so there is no way to know exactly what to do at this time to prevent most cases.
Sarcoma is a cancer that arises from mesenchyme-originated cells (i.e., bone or muscle) and can be either bone or soft tissue. Carcinoma is a cancer that arises from epithelial cells ("What is a soft tissue sarcoma?").
... occurs in the shin, thigh, and upper arm, but not explicitly. This can be localized, meaning in one place on the body, or metastic, having spread to other parts. This cancer is more common in male teens than any others. For the greatest part, teens suffering from osteoarcoma do recover. The survival rate for this cancer, if localized, is 70-75%. ("Osteosarcoma" Teens Living with Cancer.) If this cancer spreads, it is customarily to the lungs of the patient. X-rays are generally the first diagnostic test. Biopsies are performed to make the final and certain diagnosis. This disease’s treatments include chemotherapy, and surgery, ordinarily together. Radiation, though uncommon, can be used as a treatment for osteosarcoma. After treatments, it is recommended the patient receives follow up care to monitor the cancer in case it returns or any side effects are present.
Malignant Melanoma is a type of malignant cancer that affects the melanocytes. A melanocyte produces the pigmentation in our skin and melanin gives us the color to our skin. These cells occur in the skin and can be found in other parts of the body. It is important to realize that melanoma can begin in any part of the body that can contain a melanocyte. Melanoma is considered less common than other skin cancers. It is a cancer that can be very dangerous if not detected early. Although in most cases it is diagnosed in time and can be cured. Many people are diagnosed with this cancer and it is said that 160,000 cases are diagnosed a year. ( ). In men a common site is on their back and for a woman is on their legs.
Most animals are susceptible to the development of cancer at some stage of their life. Among all types of cancer, squamous cell carcinoma is one of the skin cancer that commonly affects domestic animals. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is a type of cancer caused by neoplasms arising from the squamous epithelium of an animal regardless of species. However, this essay will only focus on this condition among felines since my chosen species is a white cat called Rosie. There are several forms of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma among felines, which are known as solar keratosis and multicentric squamous cell carcinoma in situ, sometimes known as Bowen’s-like disease, but in this case, Rosie is diagnosed with
Osteosarcoma, characterized as a neoplasm that produces osteoid, is a highly malignant tumor that develops predominantly in the metaphysis of the long bones, often in the distal femur and proximal tibia. More rare osteosarcomas may develop in the soft tissue. Although the malignancy usually arises in the medullary cavity of the metaphysis of a growing tubular long bone, less frequent growth patterns can develop on the surface on the bone. Surface osteosarcomas, as well as being significantly rarer, are also of a low grade, where else medullary osteosarcomas are of an aggressive nature, making it high grade. Osteosarcomas may also be confined to the cortex, and can even originate in an extraskeletal site.
Isn’t it overwhelming to consider the fact that approximately one in eight deaths in the world are due to cancer? To make this more comprehensible, the number of deaths caused by cancer is greater than caused by AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Along with the idea that this disease does not have a definite cure is a mind-staggering concept to grasp. If not caught in time, cancer means guaranteed death. These types of thoughts were floating around my head when my mother had told me that my father had mouth cancer.
Cancer is the term used to describe a group of diseases consisting of hundreds of ailments and although there exists so many different types of cancer, they all begin in a similar way. The body is made up of over a trillion cells, and cancer is the uncontrolled growth of malfunctioning cells in the body (Dawson, 1996). “Normal body cells grow, divide, and die in an orderly fashion. During the early years of a person’s life, normal cells divide faster to allow the person to grow. After the person becomes an adult, most cells divide only to replace worn-out or dying cells or to repair injuries” (American Cancer Society, 2012).
The world we live in can be wonderful at times, but can also be dangerous and danger isn’t a good place to start at.The word cancer seems terrifying when someone thinks about it and they should be because there is a lot of types of cancer from all over the word.Cancer is the leading causes of death everywhere you go and it happens from different parts of the body. From someone that doesn’t understand cancer it’s very important to know about the aspects in which they come around. They way a cancer forms, symptons that are caused, and the way each cancer type is treated is very important to consider.
According to Breast Cancer Statistics, Breast cancer usually occurs in women between the ages of 35 and 65, even though fifty percent of all breast cancer is of women sixty-five and older (Breast Cancer Statistics, 2008). Although the cause of cancer is unknown, there are factors that increase the chances of getting it. These facto...

Cancer has become a very common illness worldwide for any age, but mostly affecting adults. One can get cancer from different places in the body, that is why there are so many people with cancer, because of all the different types. Cancer can affect any gender, female or male, and any age. It varies from ovarian cancer to prostate cancer, skin cancer to lukemia. Cancer has been a problem for many years, yet we have not found a cure to treat and prevent cancer.
The medical field of oncology is very important to many, if not all Canadians. According to Canadian Cancer Statistics “Almost half of all Canadians (41% of females, and 46% of males) will develop cancer in their lifetime and a quarter of all Canadians are expected to die of the disease.”(Canadian Cancer Society’s Advisory Committee on Cancer Statistics,2013) This makes the advancement of medical care, and the abundance of caregivers in this field very vital in combating this deadly disease. Cancer occurs when cells in the body malfunction and reproduce uncontrollably. It can affect anyone young or old and can be found just about anywhere inside the body and even on the skin. Oncology is defined as the treatment and study of tumors. Cancer

Mesothelioma, also known as Asbestos Cancer, is known to a unique type cancer which develops in the covering surfaces few parts of the body such as lungs, abdomen, testicles and heart. The popular Pericardial Mesothelioma refers to cancer of this kind that affects the lining of the heart. According to data shared at the website www.onclive.com, mesothelioma has been generally linked to the exposure of asbestos from various sources. This is a deadly cancer that begins in the mesothelium, which is a membrane that lines many body organs as stated earlier. The areas that determine the three main types of mesothelioma are: The outer lining of the lungs; the lining of the abdominal cavity; the membrane around the heart
Cancer is a disease that affects human somatic cells. It causes the cells to divide uncontrollably and form masses known as tumors. There are two different types of cancer tumors. Some tumors are benign and other tumors are malignant. Benign tumors look similar to the tissues that they came from and develop slowly. The tumor remains in the same area that the tumor originated in. Malignant tumors are formed from cells that do not resemble the tissue that they came from. They vary in shape and size. This enables pieces of the tumor to break off and spread to other places in the body. Over the past few decades cancer has become a very prominent disease. There are many different types of cancer and many different causes for the the disease. Most cancers are because of a genetic mutation. The most common type occur when a cell is dividing. Proto-oncogenes, which are alleles in a normal cells, mutate to form oncogenes. These oncogenes cause cancer because they do not allow the cells to self destruct or become epistatic. There have been several research projects which have been testing epistatis.
