56% of variance in antisocial personality disorder can be explained through genetic influences. Genetics have a lot to do with this because sociopathic behavior can come from depression. Depression is a genetic disorder. Sociopathic behavior is found in people all over the world and people make shows about this disorder to show what it can look like. Sociopathy affects people in all different ways and it can be treated as long as the victim wants the help. Sufferers of sociopathic behavior are affected by this, because they lose their feelings except for the desire to hurt others and gain something for themselves. Sociopaths typically are cold, calculating, and usually destroy their futures and put themselves in harm because they don’t know what they are capable of doing (Peterson). They do not think that they are doing anything wrong and are not harming anyone. Socially speaking, one of the primary effects is on a victim with sociopathic behavior is on their family and significant other. To the sociopath, relationships are nothing than a means to an end, some sort of personal gain be it for money, power, sex, amusement, or any combination thereof (Meyers). A sociopath is in total control of the relationship before it even starts. Family is not the only ones affected, there is a large effect on society, too. The sociopath does not have total control over their behavior and feels nothing but the desire to hurt anyone and everyone in their way (Peterson). One type of treatment for sociopaths is psychotherapy. Psychotherapy tends to focus on teaching behaviors that are prosocial, using combinations of behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy and personality reconstruction (John). This helps sociopaths because it teaches them to control their thoughts and think about their actions before taking them. Inpatient programs are also another treatment option if Psychotherapy is not working for the patient. Inpatient programs tend to be more intense, expensive, and experts are conducting research to confirm whether or not it is very effective long term (Bressert). The inpatient program is difficult and does not always work the way it should, because its effect depends on how the inpatient acts while their and their willingness to get help. Treatment is a hard and painful process but the victim and their family will be positively impacted in the end. Patients that go through treatment most often become better people after. They also tend to make amends with most of the people they have hurt in any way, shape, or form. They also make amends with the families of the people they have hurt and their own families (Meyers). They try very hard to get their lives back to the positive track in every way they are able to. Treatment is a great way to get sociopaths back to their non sociopathic ways, but they have to find the right treatment
