When Ms. Chin was done observing the children… she then gathered information on the parents and their childhood background. The text described Ms. Chin paying close attention to the family members. Stating the family’s output was surpassing its input. Factors Ms. Chin had to determine was the resources or input available to the family to help them. Relating this case back to the contemporary theories it is related to the importance of assessment relating to human behavior. Using systems and its different systems inside a system, the roles of each individuals, the relationship and how the output and inputs can affect families’ tremendously, Ms. Chin used the Contemporary theory to figure out the best solution for the family. Throughout the assessment Ms. Chin using all her facts to determine if child abuse is being committed in this home to ensure she got the job done right.
As a Child Protective worker, my responsibilities are to assess safety (immediate), risk (future harm), abuse and maltreatment, and make a determination as to whether a child is safe or at risk of future harm and assess the need for services. Ms. Phillips provided a great deal of insight into child welfare practices of Pitt County (W. Phillips, personal communication, October 4th, 2013). I believed the interview was highly beneficial to Heather and I as prospective social workers. In my experience working in a mandated Aboriginal child protection agency, there were many instances of child neglect that were associated with poverty. As reported by Swift (2011), Aboriginal children disproportionately make up the child welfare system in proportion to their percentage of population. Accordingly, most of the cases that I saw were child neglect cases and directly related to poverty. There are many systemic factors that contributed to oppression and poverty in the community I worked, including the lasting impacts of residential school. What is it so special about being a social work that specializes in child welfare? The reason that it is special is that the social worker specializes in child welfare help solve family issues or prevent issues from becoming worse. Becoming worse, not having money for medical bill and not have enough money to buy enough food for the entire family. This is the reasons that the community needs social work to help people with family affairs. Social workers that specialize in child welfare have an area of social work practice, organization, a role, primary population, key informant, and employment opportunities.

A social worker must have the knowledge and skills to apply to intervention strategies that can address key issues through a wide range of tools (Miley, O’Melia & Dubois 2013, p. 7). To devise an intervention plan for the case study, Miley’s (2013, p. 112) four step model is utilised.
My reflection on carrying out an assessment and a clinical intervention is a complex process. Many factors are involved which creates lots of difficulties over the process, especially when applying theory into practice (Beder, 2000; Howe, 1987). Often these factors require a substantial effort of social workers to establish connections between them to gain a holistic view of a given situation, and to create a theoretically sound framework to guide their practice (Howe, 1987). I assign these factors into two categories: analytical and conceptual. I will now discuss my reflection on the two types of factors in more detail in relation to practise as a social worker.
Can Social Workers be liable for the safety of children? I have always been a kindhearted person for Social Working to help children find a good home and have a better life. However, I understand that there may be some negative issues on Social Working and may have an effect on children and adults. Social Workers can be liable for the safety of children by not making sure children have a safe place to stay, not making sure that the parents are living in a good environment and not making sure that if the parents have other children to making sure that the other kids are not a bad influence.
Child abuse is a social problem in America that has many contributed factors. Factors that contribute to child abuse and neglect includes poverty, divorce, substance use, lack of education, stress due to unemployment, mental health issues, teenage parent, and a history of child abuse in the family. It took decades for physicians to conclude that parents have been violently assaulting their children. Child abuse, child labor, juvenile delinquency, and similar social questions historically were ethical and moral problems, not strictly medical ones. (Helfer, Kempe, & Krugman, 1997). In 1962, the Journal of American Medical Association published “The Battered-Child Syndrome.” The article transformed society’s views and dates the rediscovery of child abuse as a social problem. Following this article, the U.S. Children’s Bureau adopted the first laws mandating physicians to report any suspicions of abuse and neglect to the police or child welfare. By 1974, some 60,000 cases were reported. In 1980, the number exceeded one million (Myers J. E., 2004).
It looks like that lawsuits can be filed against social /CPS workers who are negligent. Seems like that many CPS workers are protected by their managers and so I would try to talk to the person in charge of that CPS worker. I would also try to get the press involved if the CPS management wouldn’t comprehend to at least investigate the worker (Hudak, 2017).
Case work is not only the basic practice in professional Social Work but rather, a common practice followed by all. The traditional definition defines case work as “a method of helping individuals through a one-on-on relationship’’. Every individual trained or untrained indulges in case work. The difference is made by theoretical understanding and professional ethics, practices involved in professional case work. Mary Richmond in 1915 explains casework as “the art of doing different things for and with different people by cooperating with them to achieve at one and the same time their own and society' betterment.” Social Case Work can also be defined as “an art in which knowledge of the science of human relations and skill in relationship are used to mobilize capacities in the individual and resources in the community appropriate for better adjustment between the client and all or any part of his total environment”.
Communication skills are fundamental to social work practice. The factor that mostly strongly influenced simulated client responses was empathy. Empathic social work created less resistance and increased the amount of information disclosed by clients.
