Social skills are the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other both verbally and nonverbally, through gestures language and our personal appearance.
It is said that human beings are sociable creatures, but are we all? My opinion is that we can be with time, experience and age. Some people are born with being very social and a people person but not everyone has that luxury. Talking with new people can be a scary situation for some. For example, I am not the social bug at a party or a person that can come up with a conversation out of thin air. I am actually a person with enochlophobia which is a common social phobia that is an irrational fear of gatherings or crowds. “Its normal” my mom said your nervous. I was nervous thought to myself i had never felt that feeling before. I was an athlete in middle school and not even playoffs made me feel this nervous. Arriving at school I ran straight to the nearest restroom and started throwing up. It was the worst feeling that I had felt. That day was the worst but it didn't stop there for about a week I could not eat , think , or talk to anyone my nausea was too strong. As the weeks went by I had a set schedule and got used to my surroundings, the symptoms stopped. I noticed the symptoms coming back when it was time for a pep rally or semester had ended and it was time for a new class and new people. It was becoming a major concern. I did not know why I felt the way that I did. It was all in my head I thought to myself , but it was making me feel physically ill. The first is more and better relationships. You become more interesting and charismatic. Second, you have better communication, the ability to talk with a person or groups of people in a professional and or personal manner being able to convey someone's thoughts and ideas is a very important trait. Third, greater efficiency if you have good people skills you are able to avoid people that you do not like as much as others and are able to convey a conversation that allows you to politely say that you need to spend time with other people in a situation. Fourth and most importantly for me is advancing career prospects according to skills you need article “ it is rare that an individual can remain isolated in their office and still excel in their job” many employers are looking for people that have the ability to work well with others in a team and to influence and motivate their team.
