With its long slender body the snake is probably the funniest shaped creature you will ever encounter. There are many benefits regarding this wonderful reptile that make it a high asset to the world. It has been said that people are always afraid of what is different, afraid of what they do not know. Many of the rumored questions can be easily dispelled. From questions like what is a Thamnophis sirtalis, to where the extracting organs are located. First, let us dispel any of the rumors that are around about these guys. Despite popular belief, the snake does not swallow there young to protect them from harm; the stomach would immediately start to digest them. This myth came around from fear and adrenaline, but snakes cannot crawl faster than a human can run. The tongue of the snake is not a stinger, but actually a sensory organ. In addition, snakes are not slimy, because they do not secrete any kind of oil. Now that we have started uncovering the truth about these reptiles, we can start with some facts.
In the world today, there are about 2,500 known species of snakes belonging to more than ten families. In the U.S., there are about 127 species, with thirty-eight species found within the U.S. (including five venomous
Hesson, 3 ones). Most people wonder what will happen to them if they do happen to encounter a snake. Will I get bitten, is it venomous, will I die, is someone going to have to suck the poison out of the wound, is it trying to kill me, should I try to kill him? A lot of things are happening at this point, more than likely the snake is just trying to defend itself. In addition, it has all the right to do so. First, you disrupted the snake, it did not disrupt you. How would you feel if A five to six foot thing with two legs and hair growing on it almost stepped on you and you were a only a half foot off the ground, you would be pretty shocked. More than likely, the snake is harmless. If by chance the snake is a venomous or dangerous snake just simply stop, and walk slowly away from it. Do not threaten it or try to kill it, just back away. With all this talk about confrontation and how to avoid the snake, it would make sense to mention what to stay on the look out for.
In the book Rikki crushes all but one egg of Nagaina’s to bribe Nagaina into staying away from the kid. Rikki said, “What’sthe price for a snake’s egg? For a young cobra? For a king cobra? For the last-the very last of the brood? The ants are eating all the others by the melon bed.” Also in the book the snake flees with the egg trying to outrun Rikki. In the book it states, “He had forgotten about the egg. It lay on the veranda and Nagaina came nearer and nearer to it, til at last, while Rikki-Tikki was drawing breath, She caught it in her mouth, turned to the veranda steps, and flew like an arrow down the path.” Also in the movie the mongoose booked it right into the snake hole where many mongooses never come out. (movie) The movie shows “Rikki chasing Nagaia down a hole where the snake lived.” Also in the movie Rikki killed Nagaina, and whatever cobra ever dared to try to threaten him or the family. In conclusion that is how the Resolution is related to the book and the
They are capable of reaching 23 feet or more in length and weighing up to 400 pounds (documented case in captivity) with a girth that can be as big as These non venomous pythons have been documented to attack and constrict their owners which in turn have led handlers to release them illegally in the Everglades. Their existence and carnivore diet is concerning because these reptiles prey on native species that are endangered like the Key Largo woodrat and compete with threatened native species like the Indigo snake. Burmese pythons are part of the Federal Lacey Act and on the injurious list. This dictates that federal law does not allow transport across state lines nor foreign import of wildlife deemed injurious to the “health and welfare of humans, the interests of agriculture, horticulture or forestry, and the welfare and survival of wildlife resources of the
run,but you can't help but think that there were other ways to get rid of the snake besides
Burmese pythons (Python molurus) are popular pets in the United States because of their attractive color pattern, reputed docility, and the allure, for some, of owning a giant snake. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, approximately 99,000 Burmese pythons were imported to the United States between 1996 and 2006, compared to only 17,000 between 1970 and 1995. The species is classified by the World Conservation Union as “near threatened” in its native range in Southeast Asia due to exportation for the pet trade and hunting for skins. Thousands of pythons are also captive bred each year in the U.S. for sale as pets. An inexperienced snake keeper who takes home a 20-inch hatchling is, within a year, responsible for a brawny eight-foot predator.
When you think of an ecosystem, you might think of lush forests, or wide oceans, abundant with wildlife. However, the Saguaro desert is unique in its own way. Hidden amongst the 91,446 million acres of this hot, harsh, desert, are a world of organisms that thrive to survive. Located in Arizona, this park’s variety of plant and animal life surpass all other North American deserts. It is divided into two districts, named after the mountain ranges that surround the park; named the Tuscan and Rincon. The saguaro cacti are very important to this ecosystem. In fact, the ecosystem is named after this massive cactus that calls this place its home. One very important organism that lives in the Saguaro desert is the horned lizard.
This adds to the reader’s sympathy because he didn’t provoke the man’s attack and did nothing to deserve what happened to him. He was punished despite being completely innocent. Though the snake does not pose a direct threat, he is an extremely powerful creature and a great asset to the beauty of nature. He “felt no necessity of getting out of anybody’s path,” showing his confidence in himself. Though he is confident, he is not arrogant. He does not cower at the sight of the man, nor does he try to threaten him. He simply stands his ground confidently, waiting for the man to dictate his next move. This trait of the snake causes the reader to respect him and appreciate his position of power, reinforcing their sympathetic feelings. The snake’s death was slow and painful, and the author described all of the gruesome details in order to further affect the reader. The man himself admits that “it was a nasty sight”. First, he hacked about in the paper bag bush until he “dragged
... different states participate in this challenge. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation has sponsored these events to educate the public of this scarce problem. This is also a great way to help reduce the large number of slithering beasts in the Everglades. Another company by the name of U.S. Fish and Wildlife service has banned shipments of pythons to the U.S. because of this growing issue. The company estimated that nearly 99,000 snakes were brought over anywhere between 1996-2006. The python challenges gets the public and python permit holders to capture Burmese and allow the person with the most captured to earn a prize. Researchers may have come up with this plan, but its going to take more than that to effect this fast growing population. Scientists have not only become concerned of Pythons wrecking havoc on the Everglades but them spreading to other areas.
The author¡¯s techniques in Rattler convey not only a feeling of sadness and remorse but also a sense of the man¡¯s acceptance of the snake¡¯s impending death. The reader can sense the purpose of the author¡¯s effective message through the usage of diction, imagery, and organization.
Should exotic snakes or other large reptiles be allowed as pets in Florida? Right now these escaped/released feral reptiles create an estimated $120 billion in environmental damage each year according to David Steen on Slates Animal Blog.
The point I am trying to prove here is, Sykes would always want to scare Delia with a snake, the first time it was with the bull whip and the last night Sykes put the snake in the soap box to scared Delia to death. Little did Sykes know Delia had faced her fears and learned how to overcome of the snakes. Towards the end of the story when Sykes was supposed to be the master of catching Snakes, the rattle snake makes a transparent sound and bites Sykes. He wanted to scare Delia lifeless but his plan back fired on him.

A situation is presented that causes the readers a predicament. In the “Rattler” a short story a man must make a decision to kill a snake, or let it live taking in consideration his obligation to protect his farm and the people and animals in it. The author first presents the man with his point of view making him favorable to the readers showing his conflict in which he has to complete a duty despite his own morals for the protection of everyone else. The author then presents the snake as an innocent in the situation by using details that show the snake is not an evil being but rather a harmless victim. In “The Rattler” the man’s encounter with a snake leads him to do an obligation that he later feels remorseful for. The
Although multifarious people may believe, that the Tasmanian devil is a vicious animal, they are not as vicious as they seem. These devils will feed off of other dead animals, and won’t go hunt for their food. Tasmanians are an endangered species. They are a carnivorous marsupial. Even though they look adorable, they are extremely fierce. The species scientific name is Sarcophilus Harrisii . (“Tasmanian Devil, Sarcophilus harrisii”).
The only number that scientist have given is around 1.9 million animal species and there could be even more yet to be discovered. Scientist believes there are approximately 450,000 plant species in the world but even that number isn’t solid number to work with. We can however calculate the current extinction rate of the known species of animal and plant life and actually track how many die each year. (Dell’Amore
He looks around and sees that this is not his village and then he realizes three centuries have past and he opens the box and immediately his hair turns white and his skin wrinkles and then his body withers away into dust.” The snake legends vary in time periods. Not all snake legends happen in Japan.
