INTRODUCTION
What IS Smart Clothing?
The modernistic concept of electronic textiles, better known as smart clothing, are fabrics that have integrated digital components such as a batteries, lights, and even small computers.
Smart clothes have been developed with new technologies that provide added value to the wearer. What is revolutionary about smart clothes is that they have the ability to do things that traditional fabrics cannot, including communicate, transform, conduct energy and even grow.
From sensors embedded into the fabric, signals can be detected, collected, processed, and stored. Using Bluetooth technology the data can be transmitted back to you via your smartphone. Feedback can include a wide range of information such as quality of sleep, stress levels, calories burned,

Thus, these questions will need thoughtful and very thorough answers.
The Design Process
The same questions posed about the technology, can also be construed as attributes to be incorporated into design process of the technology. These attributes could be categorized in the following manner.
• Need / Desirability – The garment should be designed based on a need, not motivated by a technology. It should also improve the wearer’s quality of life, and perhaps even solve a problem. Making this purchase should invariably make the wearer feel something: strong, safe, invincible, happy, powerful, confident, or even … smart!
• Wearability – The clothes should fit comfortably and move as we move; they need to bend, stretch, and compress. The clothes should be washable, long lasting, and lightweight. The clothes should be relatively easy to get on and remove. This will help ensure that the clothes may be worn by people of all ages, even by those with disabilities. Last, but not least, the garments should look
To conclude, the capability to create customized clothing is becoming undemanding as technology evolves. Ready made apparel was only available in predetermined sizes before the American Civil War, this exemplifies how the sizes were arbitrary and were not the same on a broad scale. The statement “The wealthy’s clothes were made by tailors” is a prime example of how tailored outfits are costly. Today, designers have computer-aided design to their disposal; this improved the creation of clothing in many ways, making it effortless to design the clothing and to also produce them. With the creation of new technology making clothes, fabrics will become easier.
The strengths of the book come from its’ accessibility. The book is easy to follow and provides readers with a great deal of information about the production of mass-manufactured clothing. As well as brings awareness to its’ many issues which we inadvertently take part in when we purchase such products. The book is well written and thoroughly researched but does have its’ share of weaknesses.
Use specific examples of garments drawn from primary sources such as clothing from the University teaching collection and garments from other valid museum websites. (e.g. V&A, London; Metropolitan Museum, New York; Kyoto Institute, Japan and Platt Hall Gallery of Costume, Manchester; L.C.F. Paper Pattern collection)
Furthermore, Under Armour’s goal is to expand their wearable watches and bracelets into built-in sensors that go into the clothing they create. This product will allow consumers to be accessory free and still will be able to track their activity levels. This innovative idea will surely bring in consumers, and provide Under Armour with the push they need to directly compete
A smart phone has an enormous amount of abilities for the public to use to their advantage, and many are doing just that. In a survey in 2014, smart phone owners talked about how they used their phones in the past year. Of the users surveyed, 62% of them said that they looked up information about a health condition. Over ninety percent of every age group had sent a text and made a voice or video call to another person (Smith). Smart phones usage for everyday endeavors is the future, and the future starts
Furthermore, as Marie Kondo supports, with clothing comes the confidence that a person needs to be true to who they are and to think highly of him or herself as an individual. In general, one’s style of clothing can influence favorable feelings.
With the recent popularity and introduction of various products such as the Fitbit, Garmin’s Vivoactive, and Android’s smart watches, Apple releasing the Apple Watches definitely kept up with the smart watch trend. The Watch’s massive presence in the market has allowed it to not only match many of the qualities of other watches, but in a way surpass them with the apps, and marketing programs it has implemented into the design and functionality of the Watch.
Although, Fitbit is an amazing company and creation you still need accessibility to an Iphone to use it, which I believe is the most important aspect of wearable technology today. Along with the Bluetooth headphones, Apple Watches, there are 1 million different uses for the Iphone from thousands and thousands of apps, to do all different sorts of tasks. Apple makes the other companies wince because of their ability to put everything in a big picture, then dissect these big pictures to know exactly what to use and how to go about it. For instance, although they were mainly a computer company. Their knowledge of the future of wearable technology was vast. They studied the 1969 walkman with cassette tapes, then discmans in 1984, following after was MP3 players in the early 1990’s, then came Ipods to destroy the competition out of MP3s. The biggest aspect of why this idea worked so well was the connectivity and accessibility to everything on one platform, Apple’s platforms were the not so secret weapon to control all of the wearable technology. Although, many companies are trying to knock Apple off of the totem pole, it’s safe to say they aren’t giving up power any time
Today, when you walk down just about any populated street, any busy hallway, or take a seat on any public bus, there’s a good chance what someone’s wearing might catch your eye for a number of reasons, maybe a strong message or a beautiful design. This trend of placing imagery and messages on clothing apparel started around the turn of the 20th century with the increasing popularity of politically branded accessories. Since then, apparel of all kinds have become canvases for artists and corporations alike. Today, silk screening; an ever-evolving medium is regarded by many as the best there is for apparel design and some forms of artistic expression, and it continues to evolve and grow to this day. Although Silkscreening has changed throughout the years, especially once more advanced technology was mixed into the art, for many, it’s the time-tested methods that have been used for decades that prove to be

To begin with, I will look at each of the two subjects. Fashion is an extremely large subject with many sub-categories and can mean many different things, however in this essay I will take fashion to mean the popular clothing style. I will put emphasis on looking at high fashion as these are the leaders of their field. Fashion itself though, is not to be confused with clothing. Clothing is a part of fashion, but it is predominantly purely functional, for protection from different aspects of the environment. Fashion however, is primarily for image. It is a way to present individuality and personality. A physical mouldable form of expression. Designers wish to create works of art that can be worn, and this is wear clothing becomes an art form.
Wearable computing is the next step to the computer revolutionary world. At MIThril lab, they are working on a wearable computer. Like a sleeveless winter coat or a sweater, they are working toward they goal. With the complicated project, they don’t know the finishing line yet. But with every step the MIThril team takes, they freely document and post on the web for worldwide access. The name MIThril derives from the fictional classic The Hobbit and Lord of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. As comfortable and unnoticeable as the Dwarves’ ring-mail tunic, MIThril’s team promises our gifted society the future clothes of electronic.
Designer watches for men that have heart monitors show the heart rate when exercising. This is really excellent for those with heart troubles.
Clothing has been around for thousands of years; almost as long as the modern human has. At first, it served the practical purpose of protection from the elements; but, as life for early humans stopped being a constant struggle to survive, they started noticing how they looked and the concept of fashion began to take shape. These first few garments were typically dyed draped cloth that was pinned at the shoulder and/or waist. This was seen in many ancient civilizations around the world, Greek and Roman the most notable. Over time, clothing began to get more and more complex and formed to the body’s shape, eventually leading up to the tailored style we now have today. However, the sophisticated world of Haute Couture; or high fashion, can distinctly trace its roots to Paris during the mid-19th century. Clothing from there was thought to be superior to those from anywhere else, and women began to come from all over Europe just to buy dresses. This was probably due in part to one notable dressm...
Fashion is a controversial issue in society nowadays. We live in a consumerism advanced era in which whether following fashion trends or not has become a debatable point. Many people believe that it is important to follow fashion trends. For example, Lord Chesterfield once said, “If you are not in fashion, you are nobody.” The question is why fashion should be an essential matter of concern to all of us. As far as I am concerned, each person should be able to decide if one wants to follow a trend or not.
