PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Davao City slaughterhouse is located at Ma-a, Davao City. The operations are limited to the night shift. The delivery of animals will start at 1:00 to 4:30 in the afternoon. The whole morning will be utilized for cleaning the area. The 2nd shift will start at 9:00 in the evening up to 5:30 in the morning.
It employs 48 workers of which 25 are regulars and 23 are contractual. This contractual will do the maintenance and the manual slaughtering of animals.
Currently the number of hogs, cattles and other animals slaughtered are as follows
Hogs 200 to 250 heads
Cattle 30 to 40 heads
Chicken none ( chicken slaughterhouse is out of order)
Goat 20 to 25 heads
The number of heads slaughtered everyday does not level of with the number of kilos meat sold in the public market. In short there are hogs and cattle slaughtered privately.

I. Proposal for an Environmental Monitoring and Guarantee Fund
A slaughterhouse of this size requires regular environmental monitoring. To do this, it has to undergo environmental impact assessment to determine whether there is violation of the mitigating measures. To achieve this, a respectable budget should be included in the maintenance and operating cost to answer for many defects that may result to environmental disaster, this budget should be on regular basis to include hiring in contractual basis environmental engineer.
Eric Schlosser enters the slaughterhouse in the High Plains to show behind the scenes of fast food and how it is made. He was not expecting what actually lies behind the cold doors of the factory. People remain to have the misconception of fast food being made in the restaurant. Nobody thinks about there being a dark side to it all. Animal rights are practically non-existent in many different ways today. Factory farming is probably the worst thing they can do to the poor helpless animals. Factory farming effects chickens, cows, pigs, and many other animals that are used for food, milk and eggs. One of the biggest organizations against factory farming is called Compassion Over Killing (COK). They go to great lengths to protest and inform people about animal cruelty.
During the Great Depression the task of being president of the United States became even greater, because of the suffering economy. Herbert Hoover was one of the president’s who was faced with this challenge. In fact, he was President during the time of the stock market crash. During his time as president there were many controversies that surrounded him. Many people felt that he wjhnot reaching his full potential as president through some of the things he helped organize in order to help the struggling economy. In actuality, he was doing more than others before him for the economy, but unfortunately it was not enough and what little help he did provide came too late. Part of the reason he acted too late was, because of his opinions and thoughts on the Depression and how the government should go about remedying it. President Hoover’s thoughts and views greatly affected the economy and the ways it was dealt with during his presidency.
Herbert Hoover the president at this current time believed that the government should not directly intervene in the economy and wasn't responsible for making jobs for it's people. He and other leaders believed the crisis would simply run its course and they would all be able to return to their normal lives.11 By 1932 things had not gotten any better and Hoover was replaced in an overwhelming victory by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt took immediate action to the country’s economic problems by issuing legislation aimed at stabilizing industry and agriculture, create jobs, and stimulate recovery. He created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to protect people's accounts and the Securities and Exchange Commission to regulate and prevent abuse in the stock market. He also created Tennessee Valley Authority and Works Project Administration.12 By 1939 Roosevelt's New Deal increased the GDP to $92.2 billion dollars, but unemployment was still at 17.2%. In 1928, Herbert Hoover became the third republican president after World War 1. At the beginning of his administration, the economy was looking good. The unemployment rate was only 3%, which means a fully employment in economic. However no one could imagine that in the following two decades America will experience the worst and longest lasting economic recessions that almost swallowed this nation. President Hoover decided to try to help with the RFC (Reconstruction Finance Corporation). This was when money was lent to businesses or programs providing help for the needy or in other words, relief. This plan was unsuccessful because directors did not want to grant risky loans and suffer the consequences. President Hoover also refused to give WWI veterans their $1,000 bonus immediately. Soldiers were promised a $1,000 bonus by 1945. Since these soldiers were coming home in the mist of The Great Depression, they wanted and needed their money in advanced. Meat has become a part of our culture in our country, where it is expected as part of each meal of the day. But the production of the meat raises questions on whether eating meat is ethical in people’s eyes. Studies in recent years have shown that the growing impact of our meat eating culture, has negatively affected different aspects around us. The problem is not about whether people should or should not eat meat, but that we should focus on how the production of meat can have negative affects and how we can limit those problems.
With fast food quickly integrating itself into American diets, more and more meatpacking factories emerge to satisfy the supply. The regular jobs in these factories are already very dangerous, involving sharp tools, heavy animals, and unsanitary working conditions. The factory workers are at risk of lacerations, amputations, skin diseases, muscle and nerve damage, and death (Compa). Annually, more than a fourth of slaughterhouse workers, around forty thousand people, suffer from work-related injuries or diseases that require treatment beyond first aid. These statistics are most likely an understatement, because many injuries go unreported (Schlossner).
Animals are violently tortured, trapped, caged, hurt, poisoned, blind, and killed and no one gives any care about the concern. According to the Last Chance for Animals Organization, “Farmed animals are bred, fed, confined, and drugged to lay more eggs, birth more offspring, and die with more meat on their bones at the expense of their health, wellbeing and social development.” They are pumped with antibiotics for rapid growth, maintaining health, and preventing and treating diseases. In the book called, “Vegetarianism” by Justin Healey, he states, “The number of animal species in Australia is declining at a higher rate than any other country except the USA” (Healey 9). Many animals are facing their deaths for the production of meat to rise. Animal agriculture businesses consider animals more as production than living species. This is to the disadvantage of billions of animals affected by the dirty business. When piglets are born they are divided into breeding sows, and others solely for their meat. Thousands of sows spend their lives in crammed cages, undergo numerous forced impregnations, and become sick because of their cages are overflowing with feces. However this is only the beginning of the story. These same animals are fed food littered with growth hormones, glass, syringes, and are forced to cannibalistic ways being fed their young’s testicles.
