Skin prick test in patients with chronic allergic skin disorders In the article titled: “Skin Prick Test in Patients with Chronic Allergic Skin Disorders” written and the study conducted by: Pooja Bains, Alka Dogra; is about how to efficient, accurate, and cost-effective a “Skin Prick Test” (SPT) would be for clinics and hospitals to implement. The study collected data on 50 volunteers who had one of the two chronic allergic skin disorders are chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) and atopic dermatitis (AD) to determine the incidence of positive SPT through the various allergens implicated to induce a positive SPT in patients with chronic allergic disorders including CIU and AD. The SPT was done on the forearms and back. The
test started with a negative control, but was completed with the positive control. The negative control was a buffed saline with glycerol while the control was given with over 130 allergens, half from aeroallergens and the other half from food allergens. Using the scientific method, and though proper implementation the study. The subjects did not have any complications to this study, however the testing of food allergens, the most common allergen found to be positive, was mushroom. It was also denoted that six out of seven test subjects had a history of hereditary allergies that had been tested and the skin results had positive results. This study seems to be conducted for workers in Nigeria, in which public health care is limited and if available expensive and that this test was to show the effectiveness to assist with allergy diagnostics though a cost effective SPT, as this is a cheap, safe, and sensitive means of finding out allergens in those with chronic allergy conditions. Organic inks, which are my personal professional preference, are the safest on the market. These types of inks are typically derived from plant matter. Vegan inks are also in the same class as the organic inks as well and are also ranked just as safe as organic inks.Organic inks are also safe to digest. I personally have no plans on digesting tattoo ink, but if I planned on doing so at least I know that it is safe.
What are these red patches of skin on my body that I can’t ever help from scratching? It is eczema, which is defined as a medical condition in which patches of skin become inflamed, with blisters that cause itching and bleeding. Genetics take a role in the possibility of having eczema, after comes the diagnosis, then being prescribed the treatment needed, and lastly their prognosis.

a much bigger health challenge than once thought. Roughly one in twenty-five Americans are now believed to be affected by one or more food allergies." (Gordon 11) Further statistics online reveal
In most situations, genetic heredity plays a role in what allergy a person acquires. Children inherit their allergy from their parents. (Mills et al., 2007) On the contrary, some of individuals develop certain allergies in spite of their parents. One proposed theory that will be explored in this paper is whether or not the use of vaccines causes us to develop certain allergies. Before that theory can be proven as right or wrong, we must first get a more thorough understanding of the immune system.
The skin is the largest organ in the body, covering the bones and internal organs, protecting them from injuries, it serves as a barrier to germs, and bacteria and helps to prevent fluid loss. The skin helps to control the body’s temperature and also aids in removing certain body wastes, therefore making it a vital organ just as any other organ such as the heart or brain.

I have chosen to do my essay on the largest organ of the body, skin. It has several functions vital to the survival of the body as I will discuss in the following paragraphs.
Human race is known to have developed numerous allergies to various known and unknown allergens. An extreme allergic reaction which can be “life-threatening”. (Mydr.com.au, 2014) is referred to as Anaphylaxis. It is a “medical emergency”(Lloyd & Sisman,2013).Statistics indicate that maximum deaths occur due to allergic reactions of various medicines. The other causative agents can be insects, food, latex, hair dye, etc(Lloyd & Sisman,2013). The most common trigger to stimulate anaphylaxis among children are food products such as peanuts, dairy, seafood etc. Exposure to any of these allergens can result in severe anaphylactic attack within 20 minutes.(Australian Resuscitation council, 2012).However the doctors discuss the history of symptoms occurring in children suffering with peanut allergy before declaring them to be anaphylactic and prescribing medication. (Unknown, 2014). Symptoms of anaphylaxis may occur in varied forms depending upon the severty of the reaction. For instance in mild cases swelling of lips, eyes or face occurs along with hives, rash, tingling of mouth and vomitting accompanied with abdominal pain. Nevertheless in extreme conditions the former symptoms may be accompanied with noisy breathing, wheezing, hoarseness and unconsciousness. (Lloyd & Sisman,2013).
A controversial topic today is whether or not body piercings and tattoos should be accepted by professionals working in health care. Currently, tattoos and piercings are allowed in health care as long as they are not visible. According to one of the studies, “Body piercing is defined as a piercing of the body anywhere other than the earlobes” (Westerfield). Therefore, the only visible piercings allowed are small studs in the lobes of the ears for females. The reason body piercings and tattoos are not suggested in health care is that they keep someone from looking professional as well as making them look intimidating. Not everyone sees them that way. The opposing side is that they do not affect
Acne is a common skin condition and it appears to run in families. A link between the family history and patients with acne problems has been formed which suggests that there is an increased probability of developing acne if an ancestor had suffered from the condition. (Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology Unit, 2002). This skin condition causes hair follicles to affect the patients face, chest and/or back. During puberty many teenagers experience acne at different severity levels but many individuals may also suffer from this disease later on in their lives. This condition involves the development of sensitive red bumps are formed which most commonly are referred to as pimples. (Cole, 2013) The difference between a whitehead and a blackhead (or comedone) is that a blackhead is an open pore which is exposed to air which oxidises the contents of the pore and gives the dark colour whereas a whitehead is covered by a thin layer of skin and is not exposed to the air and does not get oxidised so the contents colour does not change. (Brannon, Comedone, 2004)
Are tattoos a kiss of death at a workplace? According to Student Research Center, nearly 4 out of every 10 Americans in their 30s have been inked. ''In April 2000 15% of Americans were tattooed (which is roughly around 40 million people) (The National Geographic).'There are different types of tattoos, from color to black and white, even glow in the dark. Number of tattoo paralos in the U.S. is 21,000'' (Tattoo Statistics 1) and more is being added every single day. People spend about $1.6 billion on tattoos once a year. ''In the U.S. more women than men are tattooed, 36% of the ages is between 18-25 and 40% of those ages are 26-40 that have at least one tattoo.''(Random facts 1) People have been getting tattoos for a while now. It has been said that ''tattoos date back as far as the Neolithic era or around the fourth to fifth millennium BC.''(skinsight.com 1) Tattoos should be acceptable at a place of business because people get tattoos for significant purposes, tattoos can tell stories and build confidence, body art is a way for someone to express themselves, make up, and tattoos are reminders of life time experiences.
Many people are curious why they are allergic and others are not. The answer to this is that allergies are genetic in almost all cases. Scientists and researchers believe that people inherit a tendency to be allergic, although not to any specific allergen. Children are much more likely to develop allergies if their parents have allergies. Interestingly, people with year-round (perennial) allergies commonly develop the problem as adults, and are more likely to be women than men. Symptoms can lessen as you get older, but they rarely completely disappear without treatment.
