Who was Sir Francis Drake? Sir Francis Drake was an English sea captain, slave trader, and a privateer of the Elizabethan. Drake played major roles in battles like the Rathlin Island Massacre and many others in which will be said later in my report. He carried out the second circumnavigation on a single expedition and claimed what is now California. Drake’s nickname was El Draque which in latin means “The dragon”. Lastly, the base of his operations was the Caribbean sea. This is who I am going to do my report on.
Sir Francis Drake was born in 1540 in Tavistock,Devon,England and died on January 28, 1596 in Portobelo, Colon, Panama because of dysentery . Dysentery is when there is an infection in the intestines resulting in severe diarrhea with blood and mucus present in the feces. He was the eldest of his twelve brothers and got his name from his godfather Francis Russell, the second earl of Bedford. a sea captain at a young age. The ship was where he lived and worked during his early years. Drake inherited a barque from a master of the ship at a young age because the ship’s master was satisfied with his conduct. A fun fact is that Sir Francis Drake is the owner of the Buckland Abbey. Sir Francis Drake was exposed to the sea and ships at a very young age, which may be the reason he has sailed out in the sea for most of his life. Throughout Sir Francis Drake’s life, he went into many battles and war in which some he won while others he lost. He is most known for capturing the Spanish train at Nombre De Dios in March of 1573 and making a huge contribution to the defeat of the Spanish Armada. On the 26th of September, The Golden Hind sailed into Plymouth with Sir Francis Drake and fifty nine other people in which they then captured a butload of Spanish treasure. The queen’s half- shared cargo passed the entire crown’s income for that entire year. In 1575, Sir Francis Drake played an important role in the Rathlin Island Massacre knowing to kill 200 defenders and more than 400 civilian men. In 1595, Drake failed to conquer the defeat of Las Palmas and many other battles as he was into his mid-fifties. Sir Francis Drake accomplished many memorable moments in his life which made him still a memorable figure today. While Sir Francis Drake accomplished many battles to help many different societies, Drake also did some others like sailing the sea.
Not only did sailing the sea help the Old World, it helped the New World because without brave souls going out to explore, there would not be a map for people to navigate through, like trade routes. Furthermore, on page 9 of the wikipedia site it is said that Sir Francis Drake became Mayor of Plymouth on September of 1581. Then, soon after being a mayor Drake became a member of parliament for Camelford in 1581, then for Bossiney in 1584, and finally in 1593 he became a member of the parliament for Plymouth. Parliament is the highest legislature in the UK and is a council of state in the early middle ages of England. everywhere. Some qualities that Sir Francis Drake had that made reading him worthwhile are the following. Sir Francis Drake worked at sea until he died which was in his mid fifties. He also contributed to many different societies in many different ways, like for example becoming mayor of Plymouth. Drake made his first voyage to the Americas at the age of twenty three. Drake was an influential figure in politics when he was with Britain and he and his crew went out to circumnavigate the Earth for three years. Doing a report on Sir Francis Drake was a pleasure to do because of what he did. The reason why I chose Sir Francis Drake is because first of all my group was assigned to do an explorer. Also, I chose Sir Francis Drake because after scanning through all the other explorers, I felt that he was going to be a unique and fun explorer to research on which after doing this report my thesis was answered. To be honest this research report was not as bad as I imagined it to be. Lastly,I chose Sir Francis Drake because I heard from people that he was a pretty interesting person to research on, so I decided to see for myself. On a final note, this was a fun educational report on Sir Francis Drake.
William Dampier is a British explorer. He explored the coasts of New Britain, New Guinea, Australia and many more places. Dampier did his exploring for the British Admiralty, the head of the Royal Navy in England. He was also known as a buccaneer. He discovered many interesting things that made him become such a famous explorer. He was the most famous explorer of the seventeenth century. This was probably because he sailed all the way around the world three times!

Ponce de Leon is well known, claiming and naming what is now Florida, the discovery of Puerto Rico, and his never-ending search for the old time classic, the Fountain of Youth!

Drake was a "sea dog" during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. And as everyone knows this is a good time to be a sea dog because the queen highly supported them. She gave him money and ships to raid the Spanish shipping. Drake was the most feared sea dog in his time.
John Winthrop and Benjamin Franklin were both leaders in their time. They had very different views on common issues, which is very apparent in the works used in the document provided for this paper. The two men had differences in topics such as; logical thinking, religion, and views on government control. John Winthrop was more of a strict man who didn't see the option of questioning issue, where as Benjamin Franklin chose to have a more open mind about each issue he dealt with.

The results of his voyage around the globe were such that the average person living during the Renaissance re-thought their paradigms of the world surrounding them, even know most scholars and other educated types knew that in fact, the world was round in shape. Ferdinand, however, proved it. Thus he lays claim to having circumnavigated the first voyage around the world.

Galileo constructed a machine that changed everything in astronomy, the telescope, and this supported the Copernican theory. In 1600, Galileo met Marina Gamba, a Venetian woman, who gave him three children. The daughters were Virginia and Livia, and son Vincenzo. But He never married Marina because he feared his illegitimate children would threaten his social standing. He died in Arcetri, Italy, on January 8, 1642.

He served, as an apprentice in the Thames Coastal Trade after his father became a preacher at Chatham. He led several expeditions against the Spanish Main as well as an attack against the Spanish city of Cadiz. Drake was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe and he helped defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588. He was a successful privateer, a talented navigator and one of the most famous seamen in history.
Saint Francis Xavier, a Spanish Roman Catholic missionary, was born on April 7, 1506 near present-day Sanguesa, Spain and died on December 3, 1552 in Sancian Island, China. Saint Francis Xavier is known to be one of the greatest Roman Catholic missionary in the Catholic Church for his accomplishments in Asia. One of the seven founders of the Society of Jesus and was named the patron of all foreign missions. He was canonized by Pope Gregory XV on March 12, 1622, and his feast day was set on the day of his death, December 3rd.
