In conclusion of the My Virtual Life Simulation Program, I raised Luciano, my male child, until he reached the age of 18 years old. Luciano came about the world normally through a natural birth; labor lasted about 10 hours. Luciano inherited 50% of my characteristics through the survey taken prior to the start of the simulation. The other half was through the actions and changes that occurred throughout his life by the choices of my virtual partner and I and Luciano’s personal decisions later on in life. Certain characteristics Luciano developed resulted directly from the authoritative parenting style I chose to follow throughout the simulation. Despite minor setbacks towards the beginning, Luciano, developed properly in his psychological development which involved his physical, cognitive, social, and moral development, personality, emotional understanding, and peer competence. Modeling role modeling is used in nursing education, practice and research. It encompasses the patient’s viewpoint and understanding of nursing processes. As reported by Parker, (2007) more research is needed to thoroughly develop and strengthen essential modeling in influencing patient care. Evaluations by researchers may be the essential in developing proper modeling examples for future nursing practice and assuring health care team practices are according to the highest of ethical standards.
Continuing education (CE) for nurses is a critical component of providing optimal patient care. Continuing education includes both formal education and CE hours. Research has shown nursing education levels are positively correlated with better patient outcomes, improved safety, decreased morbidity and mortality, less medication errors, and decreased practice-related infringements. According to Linda Connor, a PhD Nursing student at the University of MA, only 14% - 17% of practice is currently based on the best available evidence.
Which brings about the question as to just how effective is simulation training? According to Kneebone, Nestel, Vincent, & Darzer (2007), “To be effective, however, such simulation must be realistic, patient-focused, structured, and grounded in an authentic clinical context. The author finds the challenge comes not only from technical difficulty but, also from the need for interpersonal skills and professionalism within clinical encounters” (p. 808). Most mannequins do not have vocal ability or the ability to move, and therefore cannot provide the proper a spontaneous environment for learning. Therefore, acquiring critical thinking skills can be somewhat challenging, in this type of simulated setting.

Simulation repeats some essential aspects of patient situation so that the situation may be understood and managed when it occurs in real clinical practice. Students in the school of nursing use the simulation learning center to learn and get experience in the field. The simulation is an educational process that requires the learner to demonstrate procedural techniques, decision making, and critical thinking. I learned that a simulation experience allows students to critically analyze their own actions and reflect on their own skill set. The work of RN is becoming increasingly complex. Every day nurses have to make many decisions involving patient’s needs, prioritizing patients’ treatments, delegating tasks, reporting results and changes of condition, etc. Most of these decisions influence directly or indirectly the outcome of the patients’ treatment. For us, as beginner nurses, it is very important to understand the decision making process, the variables that influence it and the steps involved in it “in order to develop our own decision making style” and be successful as nurses in the future (B. Kunkel, 2014).
