The character Simon in William Golding’s “Lord Of The Flies” can be looked at as a Christ figure.In “Lord of the Flies” Simon is a twelve year old boy part of the group of boys also stuck on the island.Simon was different from all the other boys he didn’t want to kill anything and wanted to set the bar higher for the rest of the boys. Simon’s character can be described as timid,kind,wise,and mature.In the Bible Jesus is consider the savior of everyone.Jesus was respected by his disciples and did many great things to benefit others.Religions such as Christianity,Judaism,Islam,and some practice there believes around Jesus and do there learning through that of which Jesus is included in.In “Lord of the flies” Simon displace his Christ like characteristics …show more content…

Authorized King James Version,Oxford UP, 1988.All four of these gospels talk about Jesus first miracle “Feeding of the 5000” in this miracles Jesus turns 5 loaves of bread and two fish into enough food for 5000 people.This relates to how Simon feed the littlenuns fruit.Simon got the fruit that they couldn’t reach and gave it to them.Just like Jesus who aided the hungry people by making a little food into a plentiful amount to feed everyone.Another instance in “Lord of the Flies” is when Simon goes off into the wilderness where he would sit and enjoys the surrounding area, take in the environment, and meditate/focus on things.This is like Jesus because he would go some place by himself to get away from everyone around him to talk to God and pray.Another encounter Simon had that was parallel to Jesus was Simons confrontation with the Lord of the Flies.This was like Jesus conflict with Satan in the dessert(Mathew 4:8-10) “Temptaion of Jesus” The Bible.King James Version ,Oxford up 1988. The words that Golding has Simon say in the story and the way that the characters react to them further show how his character is Christ-like.One instance in Goldings’ “Lord of the Flies” in chapter 6 page 93 Simon say “He is hoping to convey to the boys mankind’s essential illness,the fact that if the boys are in danger,it is from each other and from their own moral failures”.This explains Simon’s point on how the boys have been acting but the boys disagreed with Simon and laughed about it.Simon These boys were slowly turning into savages.Jesus reveled many prophecies that were not accepted by everyone.Another example of the boys disagreeing with Simon is Goldings’ “Lord of the Flies” chapter 7 page 159 , Simon says “You’ll get back alright, I think so anyways”.Simon saying that Ralph will make it back to his home also,Simon tells Ralph that he doesn’t feel like he will make it back.Ralph would look at Simon stunned by what Simon said.Ralph laughed and ignored to go on with there plan.Jesus would speak what his prophecies and work his miracles.Some people would believe Jesus and follow him and others thought he was crazy.Simon was thought of as crazy for saying his prophecies and what he learned when he meditated ,but Simon would still continue his ways no matter if the others believed him or not.Simon shows his compassion by telling Jack to stop messing with piggy and leave him alone when jack was making fun of him.Simon gave Piggy a sense of feeling better about himself
