The pilgrims all met at the Tabard Inn on their way to Canterbury. There they met the Host of the inn. The Host then decided to made up a story telling contest for the pilgrims. They each would tell a story on the way there and one on the way back. The Host would be the judge, and he would graded them on two factors: moral education and entertainment value. The loser would then have to pay for everything throughout the trip. Two tales were told, “The Pardoner’s Tale” and “The Knight’s Tale”. “The Pardoner’s Tale” was centered around three men. Finally the year has came to an end and the time was came to fight for Emily’s hand. That day Palamon, Arcite, and Emily go to different temples to pray. Palamon went to the altar of Venus to pray. Venus is the goddess of love and beauty. Palamon askes Venus to have pity on him. He said that he is not one to brag about victory, but to please help him win this fight. He just wants to have Emily has his. If he does not win then to end his sorrow. After Palmon said his prayer he then did his sacrifice to Venus. Palamon knew his prer was granted because the stature of Venus shook. Emily went to the altar of Diana to pray. Diana is the goddess of hunting, wild animals, and children. Emily prayed that Diana let her stay the way she is. She does not want to marry anyone or be a mother. She prays to let Palamon and Arcita to live in peace and to let them not love her anymore. Suddenly one of the fires went out and then rekindled. Then the other fire went out. There was also a stream of what looked like blood from the branches tip. Finally Diana appeared and talked to her. Arcita went to the altar of Mars to pray. Mars is the god of war, courage, and battlelust. Arcita asked Mars to have pity on his pain. He wants Mars to help him in the fight and the struggle he is dealing with. If Mars grants him victory he will be his servant for life. After his pray the whole temple shook. The frame of Mars began to shake then there was a voice that said “victory”, Arcita left after giving thanks. Theseus made a few simple rules. He did not want anyone to die that day. He said no crossbows, knives, or pointed blade. If a man is injured then no one should kill him. The fight then be gone and most of the men were injured but non were killed.
