Imagery is shown at the end of The Awakening because when Enda dies in the lake she saw a bird flying in the air with a broken wing. The broken wing represents Edna's broken heart over Robert. Metaphor is shown in The Awakening because the sea is life or death. In the end of the story, Enda dies in the sea, which is shown as death. According to novelguide.com, "The sea is both life and death; indeed, there can be no "real" life for Edna without the death of her "old" life." The quote shows how the sea is death in which Edna dies in the sea at the end of the novel. Metaphor is shown in "The Storm," because the storm is life. After the storm, Calixta and Alcee are done with their affair, so they ended up very happy. According to Kate Chopin's story, "So the storm passed and everyone was happy" (88). The storm could also represent how the affair has passed and Calixta and Alcee are pleased with everything or their lives.
