Latin American and Caribbean are one of the richest countries when it comes to natural resources. The natural resources that they have are some of the most useful ones in the world and that consists of gold, oil, iron, sugar and many more. World Bank stated that “Latin America produced around 80 percent of the world's silver in the 16th through 19th centuries, fueling the monetary systems of not only Europe, but China and India as well”. This shows that Latin America had so much natural resources that others depended on them. Since Latin America and the Caribbean has all of this resources, they need to develop their production and raise their GDP. Also there are no investments or any business in these countries to make use of the resources …show more content…
During the past few years the tourism in these countries has increased which helps them get more money in the country and make the economy grow a little but this is not going to help the country’s GDP increase a lot because this is only one part of the income that contributes to all of the Latin American and Caribbean countries. In “Regional Economic Outlook: Western Hemisphere Northern Spring, Southern Chills” It was stated that “Latin America and the Caribbean are the known spot for tourist destinations”. This shows us that the Latin America and the Caribbean are beautiful places but their economy just isn't doing the best. Also tourism is not the only source of income for the countries because these countries also hves oil which is one of the leading asset in Latin America and Caribbean economy. There was also a sharp drop in oil prices in 2014 and cheaper oil is creating significant relief, which is cutting import bills by 3-4 percentage points of the GDP on average. This helps other countries look at Latin America and Caribbean as places to get cheap oil. This will ultimately help Latin America and Caribbean get some money for their economy which will increase the
When comparing two countries, there is bound to be multiple differences between them. No two countries are exactly alike and the aforementioned statement is true when comparing the Dominican Republic and the United States. They differ in location and geography but also have many other differences. Some of the main differences occur in the topics of culture, customs and way of life.
Major places like Peru Ecuador. And Bolivia have major industries such as food processing, mining, wood products, textiles, petroleum, and more. Their major agricultural products would be cacao, balsa wood, shrimp, cotton, sugarcane, and more. (Doc B)Some more major places in South America in South America like Chile and Argentina make most of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and employ over half of the population. They produce grains, fruits such as grapes, and beef cattle, (Doc C) South Americas history many interesting types of civilizations like Aztec of around A.D. 1200- A.D 1521. (Doc 1) South America has some amazing features but also has a downside. From the 1950’s to now more people live in urban areas rather than rural areas unlike 1950 with most of the population living in rural areas. (Doc D) Today in Brazil, one of the largest economies in the world, there is a very large gap between the rich and the poor. Government is trying to build a bridge between the gap but this is hard knowing that 2% of the population are higher class. (Doc E) Around the Amazon River there is forest. But deforestation is making all this go away based on a survey taken in 2000-2005, Most of it is caused by Cattle Ranches. About 35% is taken up by small-scale, subsistence agriculture, The rest taken up by fires, urbanization construction, logging and large scale commercial agriculture. (Doc
Haiti lifestyle and America lifestyle is different. In Haiti They don’t have the same sources as Americans do. In fact, Most Haitians don’t have Electricity and rely on charcoal for energy. While in America most people are able use stoves or microwaves to prepare food quickly. People in Haiti don’t bathe as much as people in America because they don’t have access to clean or running water. However, In America people are able to bathe every day. In America people often eat 3 meals a day which is breakfast, lunch and dinner. In Haiti they only eat 2 meals a day. Haitians usually eat bread and coffee in the morning and later on the evening they eat fried meat like goat, chicken, pork etc. Americans on the other hand, may eat eggs, bacon, sausages,
Many of the people I know, after they graduated from high school they move to another country because they are going to study in college. I did that, after I graduated from high school in Caracas- Venezuela I moved to Miami- Florida to fulfill my dream of completed a career and be a professional. All countries have things that are in similar and different. Two places I have lived are Caracas and Miami, both countries have different laws, education systems and the similarity is the security.
The Dominican Republic is different from many countries but specially the United States. Many people go on summer to the Dominican Republic but had they ever ask themselves what makes this small and beautiful island different from the most powerful country in the world (The United States). When I wake up in the Dominican Republic the year stations are all the same, hot, no change. The climate in the Dominican Republic is Semitropical. The language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish. Still the culture of the Dominican Republic is unique. The Dominican culture is awesome all types of colors and variety in base of people. People dance all the time. However every weekend is a celebration. I can go to the beach whenever I like to, I don’t have to wait until summer. But what does it makes it different from United States. In contrast when I wake up in the United States it can be cold one day and the next day hot. The climate in the United States varies due to the differences in latitude and a range of geography features. Basically United States has 4 types of weather, cold, not too cold, a little bit hot, too hot. The language in the United States is English. The culture of the United States is Western, but is influenced by African, Native Americans, Asian, Polynesian, and Latin American. United States has a mix culture because people come all over the world, to have better opportunities or just to change their way of life. The weekends in the United States are
The way of behaving or thinking, beliefs, custom, or arts in a particular society is known as culture. There are many different cultures in todays society, however some parts are alike while other parts are more diverse. American culture versus Hispanic culture has some similarities and differences. Whether its food, religion, language, politics, marriages, sports, family, hobbies, or technology; Americans share some of the same things as Hispanics.
What is culture? Culture is such a complex concept that it is not defined by one simple thing. When studying the culture of a particular group of people we look at their beliefs, fashion, art, music and even food. By simply trying food from a particular culture we can learn much about its history and even geography. Recently I had the opportunity to try authentic Peruvian cuisine. Not only did I get to try new food and get to learn about a new culture, I also got to be able to compare it to my own Colombian culture.
...have a sugar revolution, what occurred in the Caribbean and in Brazil was simply a sugar boom.
Frequently, we do not put too much attention to our own cultural values and traditions until we are exposed to a different culture, and start comparing. In order to have a more productive and fruitful life I believe we need to become more self-aware and more sensitive to the culturally and ethnically diverse community we live in. Two cultures that have been sharing the same living space for centuries are the Hispanic and American culture. In this paper I would be analyzing each culture giving a brief background and pointing out some aspects in how they differ, like the perception of time, family, orientation, and others. American culture has a couple of aspects in which it differs from the Hispanic culture, which for the most part are Latin in root. Clearly there are strong points and weak points between the two cultures. That is why I personally believe that specifically these two cultures complement each other so well. The lives of people in American culture mainly revolve around work, and time has to be carefully divided in order to achieve everything they have mind. Hispanic culture is a culture where family and relationships are more important than anything else, time and schedules can be changed. You could say a little bit more relaxed. Certainly, these are only general remarks and there are always exceptions, like everything else.
A way to measure a country’s economy is to look at its gross domestic products. This tells the total value of the goods and services that a country produces. In Jamaica, the economy has always been the main problem for the people. It is based primarily on agriculture, tourism, and bauxite mining. The country is very dependent upon tourism, its main source of foreign exchange. Bauxite mining is the principal source of revenue for the country. Most people do not have the opportunity to go to school and also there are not enough jobs for everybody. On the contrary, the United States is wealthiest in terms of economy. They have abundant natural resources, a well-developed infrastructure, and high productivity. Moreover, people have more chances of going to school, and there are more job opportunities for those who graduate as
Most Latin America countries are known as third world countries because the economic structure still in development. To overcome such judgment the countries had been developing different policies since the 1970s. The policies promise to help the countries to obtain a healthier economy and have an economic growth. The author Franko explains in the book The Puzzles of Latin America Economic Development how the economist Paul Rosenstein “believes that in order to achieve sustained growth, an economy must develop various industries simultaneously, requiring a coordination of investment or a big push.” (pg. 19) But to accomplished economic growth countries need to reduce the government control over the economy and start developing a market-base economy. Market-base economy would not only guarantee positive results of development, but will also create a more stable economy. Mexico is one of the countries that have integrated new policies and other economic change which have been giving the country positive results mainly on its economy.
Pattullo report gives a first-hand account as to who controls each segment of the tourism industry; the tour operations, the large hotel chains, and the airline companies. The Caribbean’s economy depends on an industry that is mostly foreign-owned and controlled and the people who live there do not have an opportunity of owning or investing in it. In Pattullo’s report, it reveals that the large travel industry corporations are the ones who have most of the control. But those corporations are not located there. Her report exposes that the true benefiters of tourism in the Caribbean are foreign-owned investors and corporations.
...ing economic developments. The Chiapas, which has a mostly Amerindian population, consists mainly of peasant farmers surviving by subsistence farming. Fifty-three percent of the people in Mexico live in extreme poverty (222). Brazil has also seen astonishing increases in the number of people living in poverty. There has been a fifty percent increase in the number of people living in poverty (256). Both Mexico and Brazil will have to work towards a more balanced distribution of wealth in the years to come.
The reason why tourism looks attractive (and thus turns a blind eye) to these Caribbean countries is because of “its potential to foster GDP growth, to create employment, to increase foreign exchange earnings, and attract capital investment” (Daye, Chambers, and Roberts 2).... ... middle of paper ... ... Fletcher does make it a point to show that tourism is not “necessarily the handmaiden of capitalism expansion, merely that the industry as a whole plays an instrumental role in this respect” (447).
What makes economic growth so interesting is that it enables a country to do so much more than they are financially capable of to date, through economic growth a country can also help to lower the countries deficit. To date The Bahamas government have invested millions of dollars into the economy such as new roads and highways, schools, hospitals, hotels etc. If an economy makes an investment it is to improve and encourage growth within their economy. In my opinion economic growth is beneficial to any economy although there are a number of hurdles that must be crossed to really feel and see the economic growth. This research paper is to enable a better understanding of the economic growth and how The Bahamas has grown and investments that they have made to sustain the economies developments.
