Individuals read books and plays in order to relate life to the characters. In both works of literature, The Great Gatsby by: F.Scott Fitzgerald and Fences by: August Wilson different characters show that they wanted to achieve better goals for their future. In The Great Gatsby the characters allows emotions of love to drive them. In both works the characters struggle with in their lives. The character’s demonstrate their limits within their everyday lives. The characters lead very different lives within the stories. Although some may say that one’s motivation does not differ based on Daisy and Troy’s gender. Motivation actually comes from what one proposes to do or by someone by the gender. Troy had faced through so many consequences with in his marriage with Rose. A quote to support that Troy had tried his best to give everything to Rose is “ I ain’t ducking the responsibility of it. As long has it sets right in my heart . . . then I’m okay. Cause that’s all I listen to. It’ll tell me right from wrong every time. And I ain’t talking about doing Rose no bad turn. I love Rose. She done carried me a long ways and I love and respect her for that” (August Wilson, pg 63). This states that it is a comparison between Daisy from The Great Gatsby because Daisy had gone through so many problems with her marriage but all she wanted was the best for her to accomplish an American Dream for her future even though Troy had helped her a lot. Another detail from an outside source is “ Young people are supposed to have a chance to make their own decisions and to live its consequences even if it means failure because life is not about passing or failing it’s about learning from our mistakes and try not to repeat them. Troy and Daisy had an affair with another person while being married. Some may say that one’s motivation differs based on Daisy and Troy’s roles as a gender. For example, a quote would be “ It’ll will show you how I’ve gotten to feel about - things. Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where. I woke up out of the ether with an utterly abandoned feeling, and asked the nurse right away if it was a boy or a girl. She told me it was a girl, and so I turned my head away and wept. ‘All right,’ I said ‘I’m glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool - that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool” (Fitzgerald, pg. 16-17). This piece of evidence is trying to say that Daisy is trying to express the way she is feeling about how her daughter because she does not want her to be like her mom. Also it states that Daisy will not be as happy as she is right now with Tom because she wants her daughter to have what is right for her and try to accomplish an American Dream. Daisy wants her to be fool meaning like getting judged by others. Some may say that Troy was not a good man based on the gender because he would not have what he wanted for his future as he got older.
