In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Mr. Utterson is a well-respected lawyer who, out of curiosity, investigates Mr. Hyde and learns he is the result of a transformation of his friend Dr. Jekyll’s evil side. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian gets a portrait done by his friend Basil that changes as Dorian sins and ages meaning his appearance remains youthful influencing him into becoming vain and corrupt. Lanyon saying things like if he is fine with the man simply leaving with the vial in his hands with his solution or if “the greed of curiosity [has] too much command of [him].” After watching Hyde eagerly ask for the drawer, Dr. Lanyon’s interest had peaked so naturally he wished to know what he would do with his solution. In response to Dr. Lanyon’s curiosity, he drinks the solution, which turns out to be a potion. Right in front of Dr. Lanyon, Mr. Hyde starts transforming into another man, his old friend, Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Lanyon is baffled by this experience and experiences serious sickness due to this revelation. The “command” of curiosity led him to feel unwell until his eventual death, full of remorse. Mr. Hyde’s questions allude to Victorian ideals such as individualism and because Dr. Lanyon crossed the line and did not stay focused on himself, he was punished for it. Throughout the book, Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll are explained as opposites; Dr. Jekyll is a good moral character while Mr. Hyde is pure evil. Dr. Jekyll is confined by Victorian society's expectations to be good and keep up appearances so he is “forced to conceal his pleasures.” Therefore, Dr. Jekyll experimented and created Mr.
