The number seven is common between “7 Things” and Macbeth. In the song, Miley Cyrus states seven things she hates, and the seven things she likes about Nick Jonas. In Macbeth, Macbeth refers to the dagger seven times, whether he believes it exists or whether he believes he has visions. The writing in these pieces are similar because they reference things seven times. The number seven relates to each of the texts, as well as Miley Cyrus’ and Macbeth’s feelings. Miley Cyrus and Macbeth are confused. In “7 Things”, Miley Cyrus is confused because she doesn’t know her true feelings about Nick Jonas because he “[makes her] laugh [and makes her] cry” but Miley isn’t sure about what “side to buy”. Macbeth also suffers from confusion before he kills Duncan. Macbeth is under so much pressure, that he suffers from a HEAT OPPRESSED BRAIN. This causes Macbeth to believe he has visions about the dagger he uses to kill Duncan, so he asks himself “Is this a dagger which I see before me” (2.1.44) because he isn’t sure if the dagger is in front of him, or if it’s just a vision.
