America has built on the belief of freedom, giving an equal opportunity to all, but what value does the freedom presented to us have when a majority of American citizens constantly struggle to acquired proper health insurance. Sicko, produced by: Michael Moore, Susannah Price and Meghan O’Hara, is an indie film focusing on health insurance and pharmaceutical industries located in the United States. It investigates individual who suffer with the tragedy of not being able to afford or have been rejected by selected health insurance companies. To start off, the film without a doubt has had a large impact on me. The current population of the United States of America is about 323.1 million (CENS) compared to 50 million without insurance, this would signify that there is a 1/6.32 ratio, enough to isolate all individuals without health insurance and relocate them into south-eastern states: Florida, 20.61 million, Georgia, 10.31 million, Alabama, 4.863 million, South Carolina, 4.961 million, and North Carolina, 10.15 million, matching its total current population of 50.894 million (CENS). In one portion of the film it talked about one significant individual who has or currently works for a major health care company and the responsibility of his position; this person goes by the name of Lee. Lee was a person investigator of a major corporation and what was required of him was finding authentic information that could be used against a consumer terminating any possible treatment needed. This consisted of spending an extended amount of time shadowing a patient in need of possible care and uncovering whether it was essential or not. A full review of his/her documents were processed in order to find one factor, whether big or small, that would cause for the treatment to be denied. Lee is not the only employee with this job function, there are hundreds of employers who seek personnel similar to the characteristics of Lee in need or performing such tasks in similar corporations. Corruption can easily be distinguished when monitoring modern health insurance companies; the desire of forming such companies do not come from the motivation to help those less fortunate but the increase of salary gained from taking advantage of others. The actions of Lee and other employees have devastated the lives of thousands of home, some even forced to into bankruptcy.
