Sick Enough To Kill An Old Man Analysis

Being afraid of an old man who is sitting down twenty four seven and looking at the person with the distinct eye of the devil, doesn’t permit murder, just to get rid of someone's own fear. A person who is sick enough to kill somebody shows that the person has a lack of sanity.
To begin, the narrator goes to the old man room and open the door very slowly so the old man can’t hear him. The narrator carries a light that is covered by a cloth, when he is ready to see the old man eye, he lifts up the cloth and watches the evil eye when the old man is asleep. To clarify this statement, in paragraph 5 it states the following, “Every night, I lift the cloth just a little, so that a single thin, small light fell across that eye.” This shows that the narrator is eager to kill the old man because he visit the old man every night, just to see the eye which terrifies him. To add on to the narrator lack of sanity, he decided to kill the old man for his own benefit so he could get rid of his fear. For example, in paragraph 11 it states, “The time had come! I rushed into the room, crying, Die! Die!” This shows that the narrator is insane and determine to kill the old man, due to his terrifying eye. But when he killed the old man, he did it with anger, while the old man did nothing to him. …show more content…

The way he stored the body is stated in paragraph 12 and it says, “First I cut off the head, then the arms and legs. I was careful not to let a single drop of blood fall on the floor. I pulled up three of the boards that formed the floor, and put the pieces of the body there.” This shows that the narrator is insane, not only for killing the poor old man, but for also turning him into pieces just to cover his tracks.
