Mars Colonization Have you ever wanted to go to space? Do you ever wonder what it is like in space? Maybe you will be the first person to step foot on an unknown planet! What if you had the chance? The time is getting closer and closer to when humans will be able to go to Mars, and start a colony. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun. It is a rocky planet that is brown on the surface, but looks red when seen from Earth. Some organizations predict by 2024, the first person will be sent to Mars, and will live the rest of their life there. Based on my research Humans should colonize Mars because the world population is growing at too high of a rate, it will benefit scientific research and expand the power of the human race. This paper will
For thousands upon thousands of years, the human population was slowly increasing by a couple million people every 100 years or so. This all changed around the year 1600, when the exploration of the world made the population start to increase exponentially! Every year, the world is growing by about 76.1 million people! This would mean in 50 years, the world would have 3.8 billion more people than today. With most of the world already inhabited, soon there will be too many people in the world. The best answer lies in starting a colony on another planet: Mars. According to the article, “Scientists More Worried Than Public About World’s Growing Population” it says, “Asked whether or not the growing world population will be a major problem...82% of U.S.-based members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science said the same.” This “same” was that the population is growing dangerously, and that there will not be enough resources for future generations. Without the colonization of mars, the problem of overpopulation will become a reality very quickly. On the other hand, some may say that limiting how many children a family can have will solve this problem. This may work for a very limited amount of time, but it does not take in account the twins and triplets that mother may give birth to. When you think about that solution carefully, you can realize that many
The answer is that colonization of Mars benefits scientific research. By testing how objects act on Mars, or how plants grow on Mars, scientists will be able to make new discoveries that robots can not make by themselves. In the article “Astrobiological Aspects of Mars and Human Presence” it states, “...astrobiology can immensely benefit from human presence on Mars.” The article then explains various examples of tasks that will be done by humans on Mars. The human colonization of Mars can benefit scientific research financially, because research can be done on Mars by humans without spending millions of dollars on a robot to go to and from Mars. While some may say that it is worth spending the money on robots instead of putting a human life in danger, this is really not true. To begin, some people are very willing to go to another planet like Mars, and will die for science. Along with that, there are tasks like critical inspections and drillings that only humans can do. Without sending humans to Mars, we will never fully benefit from the planet
Population continues to grow and is expected to reach an all time high in future years. There are tons of different reasons for why population is rising so quickly. In document d, it says, "Every second 5 people are born and 2 people die, a net gain of 3 people. This fact from document d shows one reason why population growth is at all time high. Document d, also states "At this rate, the world population will double every 40 years and would be 12 billion in 40 years, 24 billion in 80 years, and more than 48 billion in 120 years." This will create tons of difficulties, like the amount of food and supplies needed for the world, which will make it nearly impossible for supplies to keep pace with the population growth. Document a shows
The first question is, why should we go to Mars? What are the advantages of traveling to Mars in the first place? One reason could be that it would help increase life across our universe, (Mars One 2017), Or to have another planet to live on if the Earth dies. Increasing life across our universe would help us spread out our population and prosper as the human race.
Who knows what kind of opportunities can come from Mars? We can use the many resources that have already been found on this planet, it could help us in many ways beyond space exploration, and it could even be a new place for us to live. That’s why I believe that the government should fund space exploration to Mars.
“The Dictatorship of Joseph Stalin and Big Brother and the Effects” Brooke Gounaris Our Lady of Mercy Academy Honors Literature II Mr. Spalding 24 May 2024 Introduction George Orwell’s 1984 describes a dystopian society in which the government has total control over the function of society. In the novel, the government, led by figurehead Big Brother, extends extreme control over citizens through constant surveillance, manipulating history by altering records, and creating a new language eliminating rebellious terminology. However, this description, seemingly too malevolent to be realistic, may not be dissimilar from the existing world. Orwell drew inspiration for the novel from real-life events that he witnessed, such as the
“I think humans will reach Mars, and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime” was said by Buzz Aldrin, a NASA astronaut. The former American aeronaut from Montclair, New Jersey believes that since Mars does exist, it is waiting to be reached by humans. When this would happen, he says that the human race would “evolve into a two-planet species.” Present day Mars has a lot of canyons, mountains and volcanoes. Even though the surface is Mars is very old, scientists learned about different younger rift valleys, plains, hills and ridges. According to recent reports, there were lakes and rivers, along with an ocean billions of years ago. The low temperatures on the planet cause there to be polar ice caps and frozen water present. Scientists continue to notice several discoveries on the planet that lead them to think there was once life on the planet. Different clues have scientists wanting to find out about even more. Many scientists in the past few centuries have been curious if life on Mars is possible or if it has ever been before.
Mars is our next best hope in life on another planet. Because of science mankind can grow and harvest plants in the modified mars soil, make a thick warm atmosphere, and drink no frozen mars water. Mankind can grow and flourish more as a species with this idea of colonizing mars. With more scientific advancements we can colonize mars and we will colonize mars.
As a country we need to start investing more money and research into space technology. Programs currently exist for this effort, but the potential for research and progress is limited by a lack of funding; compared to other government funded programs, aerospace funding is pitiful. Continued research in space technology is a necessary step in our growth and development not just as a country but also as entire human race. If we are to achieve this goal, it is necessary to increase funding for space research and technology and consider the possibility of colonizing outer space. If we limit our existence to the planet Earth, and continue to drain the resources on this planet, we will destroy the only home we have.
Scientists have dreamt over the possibility that it may be possible to live on another planet. Some think that Mars has that potential to support life, if it's hidden resources are uncovered and exploited to their full potential. There is even evidence that it once contained enough water that it had been possible to hold life. Think about it, what if we could transform it into such a place, even if only our children's children get to see any result? The following will describe Mars, present evidence of ice and water, give possible ideas for the future exploration of Mars, and give reasons for why it is important.
Overpopulation has become a drastic issue, for no one knows how many people the earth
As such, this essay will argue that space exploration is a necessity of our kind and that NASA should be progressively more financed. To begin with, space research has helped bring several developments to modern science, affecting the quality of our everyday lives. With issues like climate change, and population overgrowth, our species faces the risks of major extinction (4). Climate change has been a man-made problem in recent years that threatens our planet. It will take huge mitigations from current and future societies to even come close to reversing climate change.
The recent events regarding the NASA Mars probes have renewed the debate of reinstalling manned space missions with the objectives of exploring and landing on foreign worlds such as the moon and the red planet Mars, rather than the use of solely robotic craft and machines. It is my belief that we should return to the days of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, those of manned lunar landings and manned space exploration. Robots simply cannot and should not be allowed to be the sole means of visiting these worlds, nor should humans only be able to witness new findings second hand through the use of computers and machines. It is human nature to be normally curious of one’s surroundings, and it is important that we send one of our own to new worlds. The effects that past missions have had on the world’s people, as well as our political and cultural climates are another valid reason for flesh instead of metal to lay claim to space. Also, the limitless applications and new education that manned flights can bring to us from on site human interactions could lead to another technological and industrial revolution like the original lunar programs had done for us during the Gemini and Apollo programs.
Mars, which is also known as the red planet, is the fourth planet away from the sun. It is the second smallest planet in the solar system after Mercury. Mars was named after the Roman god of war. In many Chinese cultures Mars was known as the fire star, which is a name that was based on the ancient Chinese, and was it was usually associated with war and death. Mars has two moons; Phobos and Deimos. These two moons are just like Earth’s moon, because they present the same face to their planet. This essay will recognize Mars’ moons, it’s terrestrial landscape, the missions to Mars, its general information, and also how Mars compares to Earth.
Humans can expect to face some major challenges on an expedition to Mars. It has been proven that humanity can travel in space for over two years. Cumulatively, Sergei Constantinovich Krikalev, a Russian cosmonaut, has spent over eight-hundred and three days in Earth orbit (Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, 2005). The expedition to Mars would require the crew to endure a six month journey to the planet, a year of living on the planet, and a six months journey back to Earth. Russian cosmonaut, Valery V. Polyakoz, clocking in at four-hundred and thirty-eight days for just one stay in Earth orbit, shows humanity is capable of a twelve month round trip to Mars (Schwirtz, 2009). Earth's orbit has provided some benefits to space exploration, like the magnetic field from cosmic radiation, and the proximity to Earth if an emergency were to arise (Jones, 2009). The further humans travel away from Earth the greater the risks become. The major risks to human health on a flight to Mars, living on Mars, and returning to Earth are: radiation exposure, biological problems induced by weightlessness, spacecraft malfunctions, and psychological problems brought on by isolation.
There are many reasons that space exploration should continue. If Earth ever becomes too overpopulated or over polluted, then perhaps people can move to Mars. The world population in 1970 was approximately 4 billion people, and is currently nearly 6 billion people. The world population in 2015 is estimated to be 7 billion people. There is a possibility that there are useful resources on Mars. Scientists have found ice and some other clues, such as craters, volcanoes, and valleys, that have led them to believe that there was once life on Mars, and they believe that sometime in the future, should planet Earth need to be evacuated, humans will be able to live there (Jakosky 142). Many of the rocks on Mars appear to have been formed by gasses, breathable by humans and other creatures. A process called terraforming will allow astronauts to make use of the resources that are on the planet and create an atmosphere that will support life. One method for terraforming is that scientists would convert the gaseous rocks back into gasses, and use gas-eating organisms to eat the gas, which results in the formation of other gasses. If these organisms continue the cycle, then Mars would have a stable atmosphere for humans to live in (Getz 39).
Our world is too small for our ever-risingly growing population. One day, resources will run dry and vanish, which will bring death and loss to all nations on this planet. Many researchers and scientists have confirmed that the population will reach 10 billion by the end of the century and will continue to stream upward. There are many different ways of trying to decrease population, contain global warming and assist our environmental changes. The only way to succeed, families must be the regulators of their fertility and future.
