Driving licence age should increase from 16 to 18 year old
What is the number one cause of death among teenagers in BC? Road crashes continue to be leading cause of death among young teen drivers. The cause is car crashes.
Young teen drivers between 16 to 19 years of age in Canada have a fatality rate more than 4 times as high as that drivers age 25 to 34 and 9 times as high as that of drivers age 45 to 54.
Teen drivers are not mature enough and put other road users and their passenger lives at risk. The elevated crash rate among teen driver results from immaturity. One 17-year-old teen was driving a Blue Mercedes Benz car with his other five friends. They were coming back to Ohio from Houston. It was Tuesday and it wasn’t a much traffic on the highway so one of his friends challenged him to drive over 200km/h however his other friends tried to stop him but he accepted the challenge anyway. After 1km, he lost the control on his car and it collides into a trailer full of iron pipes. All six of them died right away. When someone inexperienced both to driving and drinking do drink and drive have six times more chances of collision than without drinking. If the driver can’t see the traffic lights properly or he can’t focus on the driving lane and spacing, of course, he will crash into someone. There are so many effects of drink and drive. For example: Alcohol affects judgement where teens can’t make really good decisions and start over speeding which causes fatalities to them, their passengers and other road users, they already has lack of skills and experience and when they drink and drive, they have six times more chances of losing control on their vehicle which causes accidents.
