Imagine someone that is amazing at a certain sport like basketball. He is incredible at basketball but is not excelling in school. No good college will take him and his dreams of playing a professional sport is over, what then? in high school you are required to have good grades to play sport, so if you want to play sports you must excel in both sports and academics. Also, when we had middle school sports you needed to have good grades. Although, requiring good grades to play sports can hold athletes to a specific standard that they may not be able to sustain, it is important to require good grades because Not being strong academically decreases their chance at going to a good college, Good grades can give many financial benefit, and coaches …show more content…

Thus, it is beneficial to have good grades to play sports.” You can only receive merit money if you have good grades, so if you are having trouble paying for college you want to have good grades because if you have half and athletic scholarship and half merit money then it makes a full scholarship. However this means you must have good grades. If you get injured on sports than the NCAA’s student assistance fund will pay for that insurance. if you are having trouble affording college then it can really help you to be academically strong so you can get merit money and pay for the other half of your scholarship along with an athletic scholarship.
