Why Storming The Court Should Be Illegal in College Basketball? Since the beginning of college basketball, fans have stormed the court. Whether it's a rival victory or NCAA champions, it has always been a way to show school spirit. Official statistics show that there have been about 3 court storms a week over the past three months. This resulted in millions of dollars in fines, many of college basketball's favorite players becoming injured, and security being accused of weakness. Storming the court should be illegal in College Basketball because many times players on both sides of the team get injured, it's a breach of security, and it increases the risk of lawsuit/fine for a school. The most important reason why storming the court should …show more content…
During every storm court in the back corner, the sight of bright yellow shirts running after fans comes into view, this is just a basic example of a court storm. On ESPN it states the following rule by the BIG 12 series (Southern College Basketball); When rules are not followed such as when safety of a player is compromised fines are implemented. When fans storm the court in victory they don't realize the risk they are putting on other people such as a security guard caught in the top right of the screen doing nothing to stop fans. This not only looks bad on the security, but the school as well. Another ESPN analyst suggested that it's not the safety of the home team they are necessarily worried about; it's the visiting team that is the concern. Put fans in your own shoes, a person would not want to injure there own star player, you'd rather push a visiting fan out of the way to catch up to your star player. The analyst is completely right it's not the safety of the home team necessarily but the visiting team that is the concern - this in result makes the security look bad because they could not prevent one home fan from completely bull rushing a visiting player. In conclusion, storming the court looks terrible on the security
Hockey is the game played with the curved stick and it is found in every culture. It has been a part of the Canadian and North American culture for over a hundred years. Hockey has developed from the original six to thirty teams, and many leagues. One thing that is prominent in hockey is the hit on the opposing player when he has the puck. Checking can be defined as using physical force to either gain possession of the puck or to disrupt the opposition’s play without breaking the rules. Checking has been a part of hockey since the beginning. Recently, there has been much controversy over whether or not checking in hockey should be banned. In the year 2005 and 2006 there were many rules and regulations added to checking that were not penalized before. Checking has made the hockey game more interesting game and also has given the opportunity to players to play more with minimal stoppage. I believe that checking should not be banned because medical science has gotten the ability to heal all injuries that occur in sports, players know in advance that there is high risk in the activity, and it allows a fan to sublimate his aggressive tendency.
Your perspective may be in full agreement with any of the others, in partial agreement, or wholly different. Whatever the case, support your ideas with logical reasoning and detailed, persuasive examples. Every time the month of March rolls around, there is always some sense of hype in the air. That’s when the nation’s best college basketball teams compete against each other. It is as celebrated with each college being its own celebrity.
These employees will spend on average 90 minutes a day at work watching basketball instead of doing their job. With over 50 million Americans competing in some type of March madness pool, this doesn’t seem out of the question. This just shows how popular this tournament is. Some people even believe that this tournament costs business so much money that it’s actually toxic to the US economy. March Madness was coined in 1908 by a man named Henry V. Porter.
Since the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) inception in 1906 there have been laws in place to protect the amateurism status of its student athletes. Over the last 100 years the NCAA has morphed into a multimillion dollar business. The success and revenue that student athletes have brought the NCAA and its member institutions has sparked a debate of whether or not to compensate players for paying. Research in the field has focused on the debate and reasons to pay players and reasons not to. There has been little attempt to assert the thoughts, feelings, and opinions of the student athletes. The purpose of this study is to examine what the thoughts, feelings, and attitudes of the student athletes towards NCAA amateurism laws. Informal face to face interviews with Division 1 student athletes at universities in Indiana will be conducted to get an analysis of the attitudes, opinions, and feelings Division 1 student athletes have towards NCAA Amateurism laws.
In the 1930’s basketball was a popular sport. In the 30’s basketball courts and gear were less regulated than today. “Basketball was born in the mind of an Ontario man [...] who founded the first team at Kansas [...]” (Winn 1). This is a past time that everybody enjoys. “Allen had prototypes constructed for practice and spent decades lobbying the NCAA rules [...]” (Winn 1). It is hard for people to ask the NCAA to change the rules of basketball. The rims were set as 12 foot rims until 1955 (Winn 1). It is so hard to
College basketball has gone from amateur competition to multi-million dollar tournaments and will continue to get larger and larger. The student-athlete is no longer a student and has become more and more of an athlete. Admissions are loosened and deals are made in order to get the best basketball players in the land. Athletes who are not students are criticized when they leave for the pros even though they are probably doing the right thing by not perpetuating the myth of academics and athletics. College basketball has become a multi-million dollar industry whether schools will admit it or not and the student athlete is the one getting played.
“No one blows through money faster than millionaires with nothing to do.” -Unknown. This is true regarding the experiences of millionaires, but is it true with professional sports players? With athletes not finishing college, they don’t get the opportunities they would if they received full education. Arguably, the most educated player in the MLB is Craig Breslow on the Boston Red Sox. He was accepted into medical school before becoming a professional athlete. He had a major in biophysics and biochemistry, which he earned at Yale University. He was asked the question, “Where would you be if you weren’t a professional athlete?” Breslow replied saying he would be graduating medical school or hopefully have already graduated. Professional athletes should finish college before going pro because it secures their future. It teaches the younger generation maturity and the value of knowledge.
High school and college basketball players have started to enter the NBA earlier and earlier as the year's progress. In general, this is resulting in a negative effect to the college programs, the NBA, and the players themselves. Before 1994 there were usually only eight to ten early entries into the NBA. The number grew to 18 in 1995, and an astonishing 40 players in 1996, and 47 in 1997. The number of early entries in the NBA grows to the point where it is a problem that needs to be dealt with by the NBA players association. College basketball is in serious trouble. Of course, any sport would be when it's marquee s...
Crime is any act that violates the law. Many times professional athletes become involved in crime and it seems that they are above the law. The athlete’s notoriety makes it seem that professional athletes are committing crimes more than average people, whether they are felonies or misdemeanors. Should athletes be allowed back into their respective leagues after they commit such crimes?
Football, one of the most popular sports in the U.S., is also the most dangerous; it holds an astounding half a million injuries nationally due to the sheer violence and brute strength used against another player in the sport, and, although it is believed that these injuries can be prevented, there is nothing stopping another player from recklessly hurting another except their will-power, this is why football should be banned from high schools.
Since just after its re-birth after World War II in 1946, the NCAA has been subject to endless controversy. At the time of its re-conception, football coaches in the NCAA were openly recruiting professional players for teams and offering them rewards if they decided to join their squads. In addition, gambling and rumours of fixed games plagued college basketball at that time. NCAA executive Kenneth (Tug) Wilson ordered that teams who broke rules would be penalized by the NCAA. (from In Praise of ‘Student-Athletes’: the NCAA is Haunted by its Past, in The Chronicle of Higher Education, January 8 1999)
Basketball Needs to Be Fixed Professional and college basketball have become very popular in the hearts and minds of many Americans. Millions of dollars a year are spent on apparel, tickets, and television, all generated by people's love for basketball. But in the last couple of years, both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and college basketball have lost a substantial amount of their competition and have received much criticism for it. At the heart of this problem is a single cause, greed. The game of basketball has become all about money, instead of the game and its fans.
This abuse is continuing to happen with not enough meaningful consequences. More people are abusing more frequently thanks to this. Some referees quit due to this abuse. If this continues to happen we will have no one to ref our games at all. Games are called worse because the refs are scared of making a bad call and being abused. This makes home-field advantage a real thing because the refs are going to call it for the home team so the home fans don't retaliate.
Every sport has rules that are set to make sure you enjoy watching it and playing the sport. Basketball has a variety of rules, but only some rules matter the most. When we talk about playing basketball it 's a worldwide played sport which involves a surface to play in, a ball, and a hoop. It 's a sport many people enjoy playing starting from the early age of three until whenever they feel like stopping. Especially in this month of march it 's addicting to watch basketball since its (NCAA) which stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. All colleges go at it head on playing each other according to a
Both fans leaving heavily impaired, and they get into a scuffle by the concession stand. Without proper security, this could not only cause harm to the fans involved, but the fans who are trying to leave the stadium peacefully could also be harmed. Security or supervision should also be covered by each section and entrance of each stadium or arena. (Maloy, 1991, p.
