In my personal opinion, the soldiers should not be forced to fight without adequate supplies. The reason why think is because they need these weapons to protect themselves from the enemy. They also need nutrition because they need to have energy and strength to survive the battles. We can see this when the spokesman for the Eighth Army says, “Peace or supplies… either let the Government end the war or support the Army….”
It could be said that the soldiers should just fight without supplies because that’s their job. However, this is wrong because the government is not giving them anything to fight for, and they are not providing for their people. “The officers will not work with our Committees, they betray us to the enemy, they apply the death
penalty to our agitators; and the counter-revolutionary Governments them. We thought that the Revolution would bring peace. But now the Government forbids us even to talk of such things, and at the same time doesn’t give us enough food to live on, or enough ammunition to fight with….” The quotes above prove that these soldiers don’t have enough gear to protect themselves, and they make it seem that the government does not care.
Soldiers typically did two different types of work: martial or civil work. Martial work included digging entrenchments, marching, fighting, and general warfare. Civil work included cutting wood, harvesting crops, and hunting. While the soldiers got paid wages for their martial work, they expected higher compensation when performing civil work, since these usually required more skills. Most soldiers in the colonies fought using hit-and-run guerrilla tactics, but fighting was not the most important aspect of the soldier’s life. Instead, soldiers used most of their time building, digging, farming, and other grueling jobs that made them unhappy. The army increasingly looked towards its own soldiers to do work because the cost of using civilians was too high. Moreover, as the military’s numbers increased, paying soldiers became harder. Because of low wages, soldiers had to rely on illegal measures to earn money, including selling off their uniforms and stealing the goods of their fellow comrades. Soldiers often deserted because of the army broke the terms of their enlistment. When caught, almost all deserters were executed, so soldiers started to desert in larger and larger groups until finally, the entire enlisted corps started to mutiny against the officers due to unfair conditions. Since officers were usually
The soldiers lacked basic necessities such as clothing and food. In Document B it Dr. Albigence Waldo states, "There comes a Soldier, his bare feet are seen thro' his worn out Shoes, his legs nearly naked from the tatter'd remains of an only pair of stocks". In other words, these soldiers clothing were very worn out due to being used so often and were not provided with brand new attire. Since there were many mouths to feed, food became scarce, which left many soldiers starving. Around the camp soldiers cry
I would not quit because only 15% of people are dying. My first piece of evidence that supports this claim is from document A and it shows 3,989/8,000 soldiers are sick, but only 1,800/12,000 died which is only 15%. Even though half the population is sick, only 15% people are dying, which is not a huge amount of people are dying. This evidence supports my claim because it is telling you how many people died. My second piece of evidence that supports this claim is from document A and the numbers show that not a lot of people are leaving. On document A there is a graph
Because the peasants do not make money or get food according to the amount of time they work or the amount of labor they produce, the managerial role of the army becomes a necessity for the motivation of the workers.
The most interesting thing I found while reading this story is that even though the soldiers carried a ton of weight around with them, they insisted on carrying as much as possible to insist they were prepared for any given situation. Also, just as we are all different individuals, each soldier carried their own personal things that depended on their own habits and hobbies. Some examples of the necessities the soldiers had to carry with them include, “Among the necessities or near-necessities were P-38 can openers, pockets knives, heat tabs, wrist-watches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets, packets of Kool-Aid, lighters, matches, sewing kits, Military Payment Certificates, C-rations, and two or three canteens of water (O’Brien 125). These were just some of the things these men had to carry with them just to undergo some of the conditions surrounding them. Besides those items I explained things like weapons and magazines made up most of the majority of the weight.
There were certain items or supplies that each soldier needed to possess that aided in their survival. Other items were discretionary or optional, not entirely important for the survival of the soldier. The optional items carried or possessed were like a crutch. They were not necessarily important to the remainder of the platoon but helpful to the individual soldier attempting to cope with the realities of the conflict. Two of these soldiers were: Kiowa and Ted Lavender.
In World War I and in the Vietnam War, the soldiers used tools such as guns, medications to keep them calm, first aid kits, melee combat weapons, rations of food, a form of communicating such as walkie talkies, or morse code. Due to the different kinds of terrain that soldiers would be in, different tools would be needed to assist in their survival. In rocky terrain, for example, they might wear heavier and more durable boots to keep being able to trek through the terrain. “When a mission took them to the mountains, they carried mosquito netting, machetes, canvas tarps, and extra bug juice.” In World War I, the soldiers from America traveled over seas to places like Europe, the Middle East, and Asia so that they could go fight in the war. Due to the soldiers having to travel, they needed to take medications in order to not contract diseases from those foreign
The act of applying conscription during the First and Second World Wars have nearly torn Canada apart. The conscription crisis of 1917 was a treacherous event that occurred during the First World War. During this time the relations between Quebec and the rest of Canada were in an all time low in our Canadian history. The Québécois thought conscription was merely unnecessary no matter what circumstance; while all other Canadians did essentially want conscription occur. The contrast was inevitably high on the issue of conscription between the Québécois and the rest of Canada thus creating a solution when conscription was indeed needed was impossible. However while William Lyon Mackenzie King was the Prime Minister during the Second World War; he reacted differently in comparison to Robert Borden. Although King promised not to introduce conscription as did Borden in his campaign race; he dealt the issue of conscription in a more controlled manner. Essentially Mackenzie King approached the issue of conscription using prior knowledge learnt from World War One.
All of these supplies were the most significant to the soldiers because they were the most important to their survival.... ... middle of paper ... ... Works Cited Hynes, Samuel Lynn.
In order for a military to execute its function, every platform of the chain of command must expect and demand obedience to commands (Montrose, 2013), because if this does not happen many lives can be at stake. A simply failure to comply with the orders given can not only jeopardize the lives of the soldiers, it can compromise the safety of all military personnel involved, even in the matter of national security. Utilitarianism has a core theory that some actions may be considered right or wrong relying on the effects of the outcomes. This theory is mostly what could be applied this situation of the detainees in the military prisons. During this time, national security was weak, the country was being attacked and threatened, and thousands of innocent civilians lost their lives. The military could was only looking out for the interest of the country and many interrogation techniques were used to get information that could lead the capture of Al-Qaeda leaders. Soldiers are sent to warzones without the ability to deny their own obligation to war, just because they believe it to be morally wrong. They are sent and receive orders under the assumption the government has all the information needed to make the best decision for the country. According to the periodical, Unjust War and a Soldier’s Moral Dilemma, individual soldiers who have
...itary conscription in the name of freedom is an illegitimate, criminal organization. A government that is willing to enslave people cannot be trusted to protect your liberty. A government that forces people to fight for its goals, its protection, and its benefit has created a morally perverse situation where there is no free society left to defend” (Boldin). Another thing we must look at is without an overflow of troops; “unpopular wars are very difficult to fight. The ability to use conscription actually encourages politicians to wage even more wars;the massive resources are a temptation that is hard for the war-lover to resist. When the draft was finally undermined in the 1970′s, for example, the Vietnam War ended” (Boldin).
Some young people should not go in the military because they are not able. They may have problems with their body or their mind. They also may be sick and can't do what others may be able to do. If they are not able then they can't fight. That can make it a lot harder to live and make it unsafe for everyone.

a We don’t think about it but soldiers are fighting every day and maybe dying. I have grandparents and Uncles that have fought in wars. I am lucky because none of them died, but other peoples family member have died for you and me. These soldiers have done this because they want their families and other people to have freedom. Thomas Campbell said it best, “The
As men do not live by bread alone, they do not fight by armaments alone. Those who man our defenses and those behind them who build our defenses must have the stamina and the courage which come from unshakable belief in the manner of life which they are defending. The mighty action that we are calling for cannot be based on a disregard of all the things worth fighting for.
