It is the first day of your high school career. You have to pick out the perfect outfit to start off the new year. You want to impress everyone. What will you wear? Some students do not have this option. Their schools require uniforms to be worn. We are told to be our own person and to take the path less traveled, but how do students do that with uniforms? How can you be yourself? School uniforms have been a hot topic in the last few years. Schools everywhere are enforcing uniforms to eliminate things such as bullying, but are they causing more problems than they are solving? They force students to wear school clothes to support the school. They also make the children feel like they belong there. The students that do not fit in as well have an easier time fitting in with the other students. This causes positive changes in the school and everyone seems to come together while wearing them. But uniforms also force kids into wearing something they may or may not want to wear in the first place. They can still tell cliques apart and sometimes uniforms make the students feel as if they stick out more, being just like everyone else (ConnectUs, 2015). School uniforms are a huge debate among public schools around the globe. They have impacted society in that they have caused debates over the real pros and cons of them, and have even caused other schools to change their perspectives about enforcing them. School uniforms have had both positive and negative effects on students everywhere. Students may feel as if they cannot be themselves, or they may feel as if they fit in more.
