There is an article by Emma Brown titled “Police in Schools: Keeping kids safe, or arresting them for no reason?” and in the article she questions their positions in schools. She states that after an incident occurred at Spring Valley High in South Carolina, it prompts the exploration of school resource officers as well as police officers should be allowed in schools. After reading the article by Brown, schools should have SRO’s in public schools.
First, SRO’s should be in schools because students can be protected from mass shootings. According to Brown, “a Colorado teen alerted a school resource officer that a student in Arizona had threatened a school shooting on the social media app, Snapchat, helping avert a possible tragedy.” To sum up the quote SRO’s can quickly act upon tragedies such as this. However, no child should have to wonder if there will be someone at their school to harm them. This points out, that this was a good use of social media in a perspective to show there can be a way to prevent tragedies. Also, the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, which could have been prevented if there were enough officers to take down the shooter down without causing further harm is something we can learn from.

Children are afraid to attend school. This illustrates how some kids may have dropped out. Fights happen in bathrooms and no one know about them until it ends on the internet. This proves the bad side of the internet, which in a way, promotes violence rather than help prevent or stop incidences. Earlier this year, a child was pushed too hard and he hit his head so hard that he was hospitalized. Because fights have gotten dangerous and deadly, other schools can learn from San Francisco by demonstrating other tactics rather than making matters
