Movie theater popcorn has a markup of 1,275%. Movie theaters know that viewers will pay more for movie snacks, so they mark the prices up. It is much cheaper to bring your own food, or buy it at the dollar store than to buy your food to the theater. For example, “Why pay $5 for M&MS when you can get then for several dollars cheaper at the corner store?” (O'Neil 16). This is significant because, the theaters make most of their money from their overpriced snacks, it would be much cheaper and better to save your money and go buy your food or candy at the dollar store or at a regular grocery store as well. Another example is, “Movie theater chains like Regal and AMC make huge profit margins on the sale of food and drinks at the concession stand.” (Silverstein). In conclusion, it is very expensive to buy your own food and drinks at the movie
