The crisp taste of coffee is loved by many people. What is wrong with kids loving it too? Many people ponder what is the right thing to is…. Let their kids have coffee or let them grow up and become mature adults first. Kids should be allowed to have coffee because it has antioxidants, coffee can cure diseases, and increases alertness and focus.
First things first, coffee has antioxidants. Our bodies contain reactive molecules called free radicals. The free radicals have unpaired electrons that can severely damage important cell structures. Antioxidants including polyphenols and hydrocinnamic acids disarm free radicals by donating electrons. Antioxidants are protecting people against aging and disease that include oxidative stress. They are also important in health overall. Secondly, coffee can prevent many diseases. Coffee can prevent Skin cancer, Breast cancer, Diabetes, Colon cancer, and even Alzheimer’s disease. Coffee helps one concentrate on a task, especially with with tons of distractions. Coffee also enriches Short Term Memory (STM) and Long Term Memory (LTM). This helps retain information and helps remember things easily without much trouble. Of course, caffeine is a stimulant that keeps one awake, which is a benefit, too.
I understand that with these perks, there are drawbacks. A person that drinks coffee can develop insomnia, jitteriness, upset stomachs, headaches, difficulty concentrating, and and increased heart rate. Coffee can also interfere with calcium absorption. I understand there might be concern. After all, Canada has caffeine intake limit for kids (45 mg). But one cup once in a great while shouldn’t cause harm.
In conclusion, children should have permission to have a cup of coffee once in a while. There a lot of perks that can help one have a healthy lifestyle. A few drawbacks sure, but an occasional cup of joe shouldn’t do any
