1.) Do you believe healthcare is a right that should be equally distributed to all people? Yes, I do believe that healthcare is a basic right to all people. Due to the amount of resources available to the public there is no true reason for not having universal health care. Procedures in the United States are often three or more times higher than those in other countries; for instance, a hip replacement in the UK costs roughly $12,000, while one in the United States costs 150,000 (Klein). Simple ER visits costs upwards to $1,000 in some places. Places where universal health care exists for citizens, such as Denmark, see lower crime rates, lower poverty rate, higher employment, and higher literacy rates (Bruenig). A study done by Time Magazine found that the world’s billionaires could effectively end poverty seven times over with the amount of money shared amongst them (Hagan). While the CEOs and higher ups continue to get wealthier, it often comes at the expense of it’s workers. Walmart CEO's alone make 1200x more than their average employees (Horowitz), but still somehow, a percentage of employees still lack access to any benefits to help them. Jeff Bezos of Amazon recently has become the richest man in the world with a net worth of over 100 billion dollars, but in the very same world, over a thousand of his employees are still on government assistance and don’t have stable living conditions. How is that possible when the CEOs have all of this money to supplement all of their employees needs, and still have tons of money left to spare, but are not required to do anything about it? Many facilities could not carry on without the help of nurses. Just like doctors, nurses play a key role in the treatment of patients that cannot be handled by simply a single person nor can things function properly without it. We as nurses in most facilities serve as the front line to patient care. We have knowledge to share with them aside from that of the doctors’. We advocate for patients and victims of trauma. We have the main access to patients as we are their primary caretakers before, after, and during any type of procedure no matter how invasive. Nurses play a key role in preparing patients treatment courses, maintaining care, and advocating for patients. It would be difficult for doctors to be able to function without the aid of some type of nurse. We do most of the key observation for our patients, and without us, it would be hard to be able to give our patients the full care that they deserve from the healthcare professions they must
