Short Story Analysis: The Grave

The grave The start of this short story consisted of the story of a body. This body was the grandfather of Miranda and Paul. Their grandfathers widow exhumed his body three times, moving the body all over from Texas to Louisiana. She wanted his body with her constantly. When the grandmother passed she was burried next to his body. The grounds they were burried on soon were sold. The bodies were dug up and moved left were they once layed were empty graves. One day, Miranda and Paul went out to go hunting. They stumbled upon the empty graves. When they saw them they layed down their guns and hopped the fence wanting to seach for treasure. After hopping the fence, they both climbed in the graves and dug around on the dirt. Miranda

Paul explained to miranda how called to kill the next dove or rabbit that they come upon. Miranda allowed it but asked to have the first snake. Miranda wasn?t a great hunter like paul. She would run along behind and give off shots, however, her favorite part was hearig the shots go off she didn?t care whether she killed anything or not. As they walked along Miranda got distracted by her gold ring as it shimmered in the sun. She began to think about the clothes she was wearing. She was clothed in a blue shirt and blue overalls. Looking at her gold ring she began to miss her more feminine clothes. She had a dress back home that she wanted to be in instead of her current overalls. She thought of old women she would pass on the street that respected her grandmother. They would look at her clothes and tell her she should be ashamed. They would blame her father for letting Miranda dress the way she does. Her father would tell her that her overalls her just what she needed for now and to save her dresses for school. Miranda agreed with this, during this time being wasteful seemed like a crime. Zoning back into where she was now Miranda wanting to change out of her dirty overalls and put on a clean, pretty

She began to tell him but was interuptted by pauls hunting. Right when Miranda went to tell Paul that she was going to head home paul saw a rabbit. Paul raised his gun and shot it with one blow to the head it was dead. Miranda decided to stick around a little bit longer. Paul wentt up closer to the rabbit and examined its woulds. He got out his knife and started to skin the rabbit. They saved the skins of the rabbits and miranda got to use it for clothes for her dolls. Miranda couldnt keep her eyes off paul as he skinned the rabbit. Paul cut the rabbit down the middle and found a bag inside. He cut open the bag and found tiny baby bunnies inside. They examined the bunnies for a moment as the mothers body lays beside them. Miranda didnt seem to care that they had killed the babies mother. But then suddenly Paul wrapped the babbies back up, stuck them back inside their mother, and hid them beneath a bush. Miranda wathed as paul did this as he had never done before. Paul hid them well. Paul then got up and turned around facing miranda. He made he promise that she would never ever telll of what happened. Him saving the baby rabbits would have to be their secret. She couldnt tell because
