“The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people.”-Unknown. You should stick around the good people in your life just like Antonio and Felix. The short story Amigo Brothers would be a perfect story and influence on middle school readers. The short story Amigo Brothers is a good influence on middle schoolers and their relationships with their friends. Text evidence from the story Amigos Brothers states, “Now, after a series of elimination bouts, they had been informed that they were to meet each other in the division …show more content…
finals that were scheduled for the seventh of August, two weeks away— the winner to represent the Boys’ Club in the Golden Gloves Championship Tournament. The two boys continued to run together along the East River Drive. But even when joking with each other, they both sensed a wall rising between them.” The text means that even though he two amigos were going to face each other off at a competition, they were always nice to each other and still remained best friends. In middle school it is important to have friends so they can get through hard times and even do better in class. Studies at Oregon University can prove this. On Oregon University's website, it states, “A new study, appearing in the February issue of the Journal of Early Adolescence, found that boys and girls whose friends are socially active in ways where rules are respected do better in their classroom work. Having friends who engage in problem behavior, in contrast, is related to a decrease in their grades. Having prosocial friends and staying away from deviant peers proved more effective for academic payoffs than simply being friends with high-achieving peers.” The research claims that friends are important in middle school classes because it helps students achieve in their classes and still keep up with their friends which relates back to Amigo Brothers. The short story Amigo Brothers is a good influence on middle schoolers and their relationships with their friends. Next, the story Amigos Brothers also plays an important role for sports in middle school. Text evidence from Amigo Brothers states, “Each youngster had a dream of someday becoming lightweight champion of the world. Every chance they had, the boys worked out, sometimes at the Boys’ Club on 10th Street and Avenue A and sometimes at the pro’s gym on 14th Street. Early morning sunrises would find them running along the East River Drive, wrapped in sweat shirts, short towels around their necks, and handkerchiefs Apache style around their foreheads.” The text explains that the main characters Antonio and Felix love to work out and do sports. Sports play a huge impact on students around the globe. An article on Livestrong proves this point by explaining reasons why sports are important for middle schoolers (and other grade levels). The text states, “Participation in sports requires middle school students to work as a team and be persistent in order to succeed. It also gives students access to positive role models, such as coaches and older players who can set positive examples. Middle school students tend to be sensitive to criticism, self-conscious, loyal to peers and more motivated by social factors than by academic concerns. As a result, they benefit from sports programs that foster teamwork and skill-building through "no-cut" policies rather than highly competitive programs similar to those found at high school and adult levels.” Another piece of evidence from the same article states, “Students participating in one or more interscholastic sports had an average grade point average of 3.151, while non-athletes had an average of 2.4, according to a study of interscholastic sports participation published in the NASSP Bulletin, the journal of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Athletes have higher grades than non-athletes even when socioeconomic status, gender, age and family composition are taken into account.” These two pieces of evidence explain that sports are important for middle schoolers. It can help increase grades and it can help middle schoolers learn about good sportsmanship and being leaders on teams. It ties back to Amigo Brothers because boxing can be referred to as a sport and middle schoolers are helped a lot by sports. The story Amigos Brothers also plays an important role for sports in middle school. Additionally, opponents of the story Amigo Brothers argue that the story may be a bit too violent for middle school readers.
These people are wrong because they don’t know the many kids that box during middle school. According to Press Tribune, many middle schoolers box and sometimes for a good cause. In the article Regional boxing program at middle school looks to knockout bullying, it states, “Folsom police officer James Dorris has stepped into the ring with some of the most intimidating fighters in California, but now the triple-belt amateur boxing champion is trying to land a finishing hook on something harder to pin down – a culture of hurtful and even deadly teen bullying on local school campuses.” The text explains that many kids are competing in boxing for a good cause, to “knockout bullying”. It’s safe to box if everyone competes calmly and nicely. In all, Amigo Brothers is a perfect story and influence on middle schoolers. Middle schoolers can relate to the story because they play a lot of sports. Also the story has a good influence on friend relationships. Some people argue that the story may be violent for these readers but little do they know that millions of middle schoolers box. Remember, “Friendship isn’t about whom you have know the longest, it’s about who came, and never left your side”

Students should read this book in a high school English classroom because it demonstrates how relationships can be difficult, but teamwork can help to solve many issues. Hutch realized that it would not help his team to continue fighting with Darryl and by being mad at his father. He was able to take those difficult relationships and form them into positive outcomes and achieve his goal. After winning the championship game, “Hutch made his way through his teammates, and up through the stands and did something he had not done in a very long time: Hutch hugged his father. And his father hugged him back” (Lupica 243). This proves to students that if they continue to work hard and focus on a goal, they can achieve it by being a team player on and off the field.
The novel “The Outsiders,” by S.E. Hinton can be defined as an emotional, heart breaking, and lesson teaching story. Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade were the youngest in their gang of Greasers. They were all wild boys, who liked looking “tuff” and being known as criminals. Ponyboy and Johnny were not as intimidating as the other greasers, Two-Bit Mathews, Dallas Winston, Darrel Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, and Steve Randle. One night, Ponyboy and Johnny were both out on the street. Out of nowhere some drunken Socs began to chase and beat up the boys. One of the Socs was drowning Ponyboy in a fountain. Johnny saw the danger Ponyboy was in and pulled out his switchblade. He stabbed Bob Sheldon and killed him. The boys did not know what to do, so they ran away to Windrixville, and lived in an abandoned church. They cut their hair and Ponyboy bleached his. Eventually the boys came to their senses and planned to turn themselves in. Dallas came to pick the boys up, but first they went to Dairy Queen to eat. When they drove back to the church they noticed that the church was on fire. Ponyboy and Johnny forced themselves into the church to save the children stuck inside. Ponyboy ended up with a minor concoction and some small burns on his back. While Johnny was not as lucky, an extremely large, heavy, and blazing hot piece of wood fell on him. Both boys were sent to the hospital. Johnny remained in the hospital much longer than Ponyboy. Johnny felt weaker and weaker every day and was getting worse by the minute. After a long and depressing journey, Johnny passed away. Therefore, their group of Greasers would now be presented with how loss and grief could drive people into making illogical decisions.
After hearing a brief description of the story you might think that there aren’t many good things about they story. However, this is false, there are many good things in this book that makes it a good read. First being that it is a very intriguing book. This is good for teenage readers because often times they don’t willingly want to read, and this story will force the teenage or any reader to continue the book and continue reading the series. Secondly, this is a “good” book because it has a good balance of violence. This is a good thing because it provides readers with an exciting read. We hear and even see violence in our everyday life and I believe that it is something teenagers should be exposed to. This book gives children an insig...
The characters in the book The Outsiders, are one of the most important part of the story. Each character has his own different thoughts and actions. They all stick together and have each other’s backs. Most books that kids liked to read that were fiction mostly dealt with the popular clicks and groups. But Hinton’s novels related to the outcasts of society (Harris).
Having no brothers and growing up in a household full of women, I often sought out brotherhood in any possible way, whether that is in the form of schoolhouse friends, teammates, or fellow soldiers...
The Outsiders is a novel by S.E Hinton, that follows a young boy named Ponyboy who grows up in a gang. Johnny, Sodapop and Darry help him find how he fits into the world and without them he would have a hard time finding his own identity. Without having a close group of friends he would have a tough way of life, especially with the Socs. Being in a group that you associate with, that have different values to yourself can lead you to disregard your own ethics and do things you wouldn’t normally do, but at the same time this can assist and reinforce your own values…
This involves physical contact or violence against another student. “School bullying can consist of physical violence against a student but more often involves ridicule and attempts to humiliate the targeted student in front of others” (“Bullying”1). Videos of students being hit or even verbal abused are posted online regularly. The problem is, everyone says they stand up for bullying, but this is still allowed. Why is this still happening if bullying is trying to be prevented? This ties in with the idea that fights should not be posted because this only makes bullying (cyberbullying) worse! The internet has a HUGE impact on society today, whether it is in the form of social media, videos of fights, or any other type of communication via cell
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. He also experiences the loss several close friends in a very short period of time. Throughout this novel, Ponyboy encounters many life changing experiences that prove he is a dynamic character.
I would recommend reading the wizard of Oz. The story is great for all ages. The message told in the story is a good reminder for us also. We constantly need to be reminded that we pick the qualities we possess. When I do not feel I have been kind I think of all the things I do during the day to remind myself even if it is holding the door for someone.

It was another tough case for Rafael. One he put his heart and soul into to win but lost because of an old photo that resurfaced of the victim in a similar situation. Defence claimed it was a pattern and that the victim was blackmailing a "hero cop". A ONE time photo clearly indicates a pattern. Right. How could the jury be so gullible? It was these cases that always got to him and now a rapist walks free and that “not guilty” verdict ran through his head. Goddammit. Rafael was fuming as he grabs a cup of coffee.
Many people can agree that adolescence can be some of the most nasty, gruesome years of a boy's life due. While this may be true, this stage in a boy's life is the one in which he finds out who he truly is. Some people can find who they are with little to no outside influence, others, such as Joe Coutts in The Round House by Louise Erdrich, take almost a whole community to shape who they are.
In the short story called Amigo Brothers Piri Thomas explores a boxing bout between friends. Piri Thomas explains how two friends trained for the championship fight. Then a tension grew between them.
In the story, Brother Lemon brought with him a new water-purifier which he boasts for its ability to process the water and provide good purity without any bacteria. This was used by Laurence as a symbol to describe Brother Lemon as “a kind of soul-purifier, sucking in the septic souls and spewing them back one hundred percent pure” (p. 53). Although we are created in the image and likeness of God to render us as human, we are not God in any sense. It is only God that can do anything to the soul. It is going too far to say any human to act as a kind of soul-purifier.
Bullying constantly affects our society. What is bullying you may ask. It is defined as a conscious willful, deliberate and repeated hostile activity marked by an imbalance of power, intent to harm, and/or a threat of aggression. Severe bullying can lead to a feeling of terror on the part of the person being bullied. Whether it’s from parents, players, or coaches’ disrespectful behavior has been a growing concern in our gyms, rinks, and stadiums.
