Happiness can be found in Unlikely circumstances there are a few stories and "unlikely circumstances" that I have encountered throughout my life. When I think of this topic I think back to the first day I started playing soccer. It was a gloomy and cold rainy day, and the drive was so long as my mother drove to Sapperton field in New Westminster. I remember looking out of the window on September 3rd ,2002 , watching the rain drop slowly slide down the glass like a slithery snake. On the first day I tried to avoid my mom as much as I could, but was unfortunately forced to leave the house. My mom grabbed my hand and enthusiastically dragged me down the stairs, while all I wanted to do was sleep. The whole way to the field I tried to make up the …show more content…
But the one moment that I am extremely grateful for and has become a huge part of my life was when I first started to play soccer. As someone who initially had no interest in soccer, through the change of my mind, and through experiencing happiness when I play soccer, I indeed have experienced happiness in the most unlikely circumstances. I would’ve never thought, that scoring my first ever goal, or finding out about my hidden skills would feel this amazing. As I first dodged the defender, I was shocked at my own capability to do so, but I continued moving forward. Through soccer, I got to discover the level of skills I possess and further what I am really capable of. Also, the friends I made, we have developed as a community together, and we have grown up together and know each other’s plus and negative sides, hard-core sides like no other person could. The happiness I get when our team wins medals in the tournaments, is indescribable almost like a six year old kid at a candy store. Moreover, I get to travel to different cities through the tournament. Through soccer I get to experience such things that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible for me. However, at first I thought it might be hard for me to manage soccer with my school work, and I at first I was disappointed because obviously school is always given the priority. But the happiness, the memories, and the peace I get from playing soccer motivated me to push against hard against the wall standing as a hurdle, and I have managed to manage my time wisely. Therefore, I have unwillingly learned another quality: time management, commitment, and communication with one
From an early age I always knew I would be playing soccer my whole life. My dad showed me the ropes of how to play and got me interested right away. By the age of three I had started playing, and to this day I have not stopped. Soccer has been a huge part of my life and I don’t know where I would be today if I never played. I met some amazing people playing soccer including my coaches who encouraged me and told me never to give up as well as my teammates who became my friends and were always there for me.
On February 28, 2005, I experienced one of the most exciting events that anyone could ever experience – winning a State Championship. The day my soccer team made history is a day I’ll never forget. However it is not just that day we won the title, but the whole experience of the preceding season that got us there. From start to finish, my team’s 2004-2005 season taught me that the platitude is true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
While I have developed my soccer skills over the years, the relationships I have built with people are treasured more than my ability to play the game. Playing soccer has granted me the opportunity to be surrounded by an extensive family of people who truly love me. I am forever indebted to the sport for bringing me into love-filled relationships with players and coaches alike.
I played soccer since I was seven, as of the last few years I played at a very high level. I have represented Ohio South two times at a regional showcase, I have been invited to participate in a camp in Manchester, England and attended the camp twice. Also last Season for the Newark High School soccer team I was named first team all league and third team all central district. Soccer was the first sport I truly loved to do, I wanted to be the best. I work hours upon hours to master whatever part of the game I wanted to improve on. Soccer has taught me to have a great work ethic, and that mentality came when I was cut from the state team the first time I tried out. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I was destroyed, and I thought I was not good but I knew I could do better. The next year I worked, I got bigger, stronger, faster, my soccer I.Q. was higher;therefore, overall I was a much better player. The result of that work, was that I made the team, but not only, I made the starting line up. After that I knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Currently playing varsity football, varsity lacrosse, and track I take great pride in the activities I do. Staying on top of my academics, being duel enrolled at Indian River State College, working three nights a week, and two different sport practices after school each day shaped my character to having a hard work
I remember, freshman year, I was scared, none of my middle school friends went to my new high school, and I didn’t know anyone. I was a shy girl and had been shoved out of my comfort zone. So as the weeks and months went on I made only "school friends", basically just acquaintances you meet and only talk to in school. Eventually soccer season came around, and of course my dad convinced me to continue playing as I definitely did not plan on putting myself out there like that. Not only did playing soccer on my high school's team introduce me to my best friend, but I've met some of the best people, made memories I'll never forget, and learned extraordinary lessons I couldn’t have learned any
“The Lesson” a short story from Gorilla My Love by Toni Cade Bambara is about a woman, Miss Moore, who wants the best for the children who lives in the inter-city slums of Harlem. Miss Moore took them on a field trip to a toy story that has the luxuries that they do not see often. The children think she is a mean, proper lady, but she is not that at all, she just wants to help them. The author expresses social inequality in this story. “The lesson she wants to impart is the economic inequality that exists in the United States, and for the most part, she succeeds admirably in her goal” (Korb). All of the children experienced the field trip, but Sylvia was affected the most. Miss Moore is more than a character, she is a significant symbol in this short story.
Soccer is my passion, I love soccer with all my heart. But, I remember when I used to suck at it. I remember the first time I went to go try out for a club team, I wanted to quit playing right after that practice. Everyone was so good at the sport and I didn’t have any experience. But, I kept trying and I got better and better. I finally went to a team that was more my level, and we’ve all grown up together as a very strong team. I’m glad I kept going with soccer, it’s such a fun sport to play. My biggest dream is to get looked at by a college and get a scholarship in soccer. But, for that to happen, I have to work really hard for my goal to play in college. My last symbol is a paint brush. I love to draw, even though I’m not the best at it I still practice to get better at it. I also love looking at art because it’s so beautiful. What I love about art is that it tells a story and you have to figure out what that story is.
Everyone has life experiences. Some can be new and fun, like the first time ever going to Disney World as a child. Meeting your favorite movie characters and seeing stories come to life. Other can be tragic, like losing a loved one or suffering a car crash. No matter the experience we all learn from them. I am here to tell you about an experience of mine that I went through at an early age. At the age of 15, I told my parents that I wanted to play football. The sport of football really changed my view on life and taught me that things don’t come easy and that if you really want something, you’re going to have to put in the time and work. One of the many experiences of being in the sport of football is that practice is one of the toughest things I’ve ever went through, physically and mentally. Football taught me a lot about team work and working with others on doing and executing a job. Football made me faster stronger smarter and wiser. I had great coaches who always encouraged me to keep going whenever I wanted to quit because something was too hard or I was feeling
At age four, I started my first sport, soccer. From the very first practice, I was simply hooked to the new responsibility to show up at practice every Tuesday and a game every Saturday for my new Blue Valley Recreation team. I had so much fun with my soon-to-be kindergarten classmates! As I grew, I joined more and more sports like softball and dance classes, and I would do anything to get outside and play some football or tag with my family. From the time I was four until now, my love for sports and exercise has only multiplied and multiplied. Apart from the love of playing, I feel I may have gained something more from playing sports all these years. Though I was not entirely certain as to what or why I benefited from playing sports so long, I knew I had some attributes that many other non-athletes did not.
Since the young age sport has had a significant impact in all aspects of my life from interacting, playing and consequently developing the interest of mine into teaching, coaching and studying, Sport is major in my life and is the key factor in the significant decisions in my life.
School, which used to make people anxious, is now a place of growth and achievement. I discovered that having common interests could help me close the distance between my past and present, so I joined sports, specifically soccer. My sense of belonging was strengthened and my confidence was boosted by these activities. I am a respected part of a community now, not just the new kid from Mexico. Though I lost the motivation for the sport over time.
My engagement in soccer, track, football, tennis, and golf demonstrates my broad interests and athletic commitment. Participating in many sports helps me to test different elements of my physical abilities and push myself in new ways. Whether it's the teamwork and fellowship of soccer, the speed and agility required in track events, the strategic thinking of football, or the accuracy and attention required in tennis and golf, each sport presents its own set of difficulties and benefits. These experiences have not only provided me with a diverse skill set, but they have also taught me significant life lessons in discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. Beyond the competitive arena, my involvement in these sports demonstrates a strong dedication to living a healthy and active lifestyle.
The short story is a concise form of narrative prose that is usually simpler and more direct compared to longer works of fiction such as novels. Therefore, because of their short length, short stories rely on many forms of literary devices to convey the idea of a uniform theme seen throughout the script. This theme is illustrated by using characteristics that are developed throughout the story such as, plot, setting and characters. The three main components are developed throughout the story in order to guide the reader to the underlying theme, which is necessary as a short story lacking a theme also lacks meaning or purpose.
Living in country like Vietnam, soccer is the king of sport. That is why it is not surprising that my childhood has grown up with the soccer’s ball until today. My mom told me that I liked kicking the ball around and had so much fun with it when I was only about two years old. Since then, playing soccer is my favorite’s sport and it is my hobby whenever I have free time. It is interesting and amazing, especially the feeling when I score a goal or my teammates do it. That feeling fulfills in me like I have just archived something very important. Playing soccer also helps me to relax and be confident when I have stress and frustration. For instant, after doing assignment or studying all day long, I feel tired and exhausted. However, having fun with the ball such as kicking it against the wall or trying to do some tricks, all of my tiresome and exhaustion die out.
