Shopify’s board directors include the Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Luetke. The other main components like Design,
Platform, Marketing, Merchandising and Revenue are carried forward by the employees mentioned alongside. Shopify helps entities to establish their own online stores with the help of Shopify’s readily available resources and ecommerce forums. The employees in their respective departments are responsible for easy access of Shopify.com to their clients.
The 4 main basic departments in Shopify’s organizational design are the Portal on which they allow the online store hosting i.e. Web Hosting, the Enterprise Resource Planning, “Timber” the special content management system which is Shopify copyrighted and the Customer Relationship Management. These 4 form the basis of Shopify’s organizational design. These are integrated with the IT infrastructure offered by Shopify to build multiple online stores for different vendors. There are different types of organizational structures depending on the type of business (Burke & Litwin, 2002). The main ones that are related to this study are hierarchy, cross-functional and matrix. Costco Wholesale Corporation is the main focus of this research paper. It was founded in Seattle, WA in 1983 but has the headquarters in Issaquah, WA. It was founded by James Sinegal and Jeffery Brotman. Costco operates 698 warehouses in ten countries, Puerto Rico been the recent one. The company also operates an online website as well as receiving revenue from the membership fees.
