When you come from a different country do you have trouble communicating with others? Is it hard to adapt to the new culture or stay within your own culture? Around the world, many people are rewarded for been direct and independent. Been able to take care of yourself and work well with others who are not in your culture can help you achieve great things. In this paper. I will discuss how in the case study " Shame and Making truth". The author M. Cameron Hay tries to solve the conflict between high and low context culture and high low uncertainty avoidance in his new family in Indonesia. I will discuss the problems the author faced by using examples from the case, my personal experienced and an article called culture and conflicts by Michael LeBaron.

People in different countries still have the high culture or low context culture. (High vs. low context culture mean that low culture relies more on explicit verbal communication. High context culture is more collectivist, it values more interpersonal relationships.) In the case study Shame and Making Truth Cameron has relied on high context culture values to solve the case. He ignores their cultural beliefs and focuses more on his. According to the case "Cameron is faced with a problem where someone steals money and pictures." He tries to not let the problem happen again by being direct (using low context culture) But he ignores there beliefs and how they see things. In Addition, when he talks to La Ani the stepdaughter of La Anan he talks to her directly and explains what has happened. This shows that people can be in the different country and still don't have to change their cultural
Culture is a unique way to express the way one shows the world and others how different each one is. Culture affects the way one views the world and others. This is demonstrated in the stories “Ethnic Hash” by Patricia Williams, “Legal Alien” by Pat Mora, and “By Any Other Name” by Santha Rama Rau. These stories come together to show examples of how people of different cultures are viewed by others as different. Mora, Williams, and Rau all have very unique styles, and this is shown throughout the following quotes.
If you are a European American traveling in Italy, the cultures will seem very different. One of the biggest is the concept of time! Italians will usually be late to appointments and not think anything of it. Americans are always frantically running. They don’t want to be late to work or an event. The two essays discussed in this paper are ‘My Name’ and ‘Shame’. Sandra Cisneros in ‘My Name’ presents a very strong point of view of how her name has different meaning and it gives her memories of her grandmother with who she shares her name and also regrets the fact that it is somehow related to the weakness she and her grandmother used to feel when they were supposed to be behaving in a certain manner because they were Mexican and were not given power and freedom. There name was a sort of reminder of the fact that they have to be soft and polite and quite because none of the meaning of the name represents something which is powerful and expressive and strong. The way people communicate varies widely between, and even within, cultures. One aspect of communication style is language usage. Language has always been perceived as a link between people but it can also constitute a barrier. Across cultures, some words and phrases are used in different ways. For example, even in countries that share the English language, the meaning of "yes" varies from "maybe, I'll consider it" to "definitely so," with many shades in between . Furthermore, communication between cultures which do not share the same language is considerably more difficult . Each culture, has its distinct syntax, expressions and structure which causes confusion in intercultural communication. Guilt and Shame. These two emotions are very much part of the human condition which always finds itself at a catch 22. The internal battle between doing what you and doing what is right according to some moral boundary. Those who do cross this theoretical and ambiguous line often find themselves feeling either guilty, ashamed or both.
“Cultures provide people with ways of thinking – ways of seeing, hearing, and interpreting the world” (www.colorado.edu, 2005, para. 1). Everyone seeing, hearing, and interpreting information differently can cause numerous cultural issues that can be problematic, or even detrimental to an organizations ability to be successful on a global level. Within this work an examination of four different videos will be completed, the objective is to identify five cultural issues in the videos and select a framework that could be used to analyze and understand the cultural issues. In the four videos the issues that arise are behavioral constraints, emotional constraints, communication restraints. Sociology constraints, and psychological constraints so lets take a closer look at how the factors of the frameworks would apply to the issues seen in the videos.
