1. Normal sexual behavior can be defined as sexual practices that are socially accepted by the masses in the society. For example sexual practices that are acceptable in America are usually between one man and one female. Deviant is defined as sexual practices that are outside of what the society would consider “normal.” For example, fetishes, or engaging in sexual relationships with adolescents or family members are considered deviant. What makes these acts deviant are the fact that they are not accepted socially, as well as they go against the major religion and cultural values held by most Americans. However, for something to be labeled deviant it must fit outside of what the society considers “normal.” Sexual practices vary between cultures and societies, so something that may be considered deviant in one society may not be so in another. Sexual acts that are considered normal vary from society to society, this has do with the religious and cultural values held by each society. For example, prostitution is considered socially unacceptable in America because of religious and cultural reasons. There are even laws that ban such an act from taking place. However, in other societies it is culturally and socially acceptable for prostitution to occur. Some of these places use this as an economic means, which they have brothels and prostitution is actually run as a business. Although, there are certain sexual acts that are considered universally deviant such as sodomy. Most all societies have laws against such a sexual practice including America, however, while this is a common sexual practice it is done in secrecy. Most societies have very harsh penalties for engaging in such a sexual practice, this has a lot to do with religious values.
