Sex is a topic that is often shunned about in modern society. It is something that is rarely spoken about and it should not be that way. Sex is a natural part of life that everyone should be educated on yet very few are. The lack of knowledge can result in consequences such as: sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unplanned pregnancies, and sexual abuse, which may be prevented. Many do not get to learn about sex for reasons such as their parents do not teach them about it -whether it is for religion purposes or they just feel awkward- or it is not taught in schools. There are many types of STDs including syphilis, herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The rates of STDs across America never cease to progress as time goes by. Despite the fact that adolescents signify only twenty-five percent of the sexually active community, they are accountable for approximately half of STD crises. There are also many conditions associated with STDs including hepatitis B, pelvic inflammatory disease, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), chronic pelvic pains, infertility, and the human papilloma virus (HPV). All STDs and STIs can be prevented completely by not having sex. One can minimize the chances of getting an STD or STI they are sexually active by only having one sex partner who does not have an STD or STI and who does not have another or multiple sex partners. It is highly recommended to always use condoms when having any type of sex. Having sex ed taught in schools can teach adolescents how to prevent contracting any type of STD or STI and can also help reduce the rate of people infected …show more content…

Many young adolescents are very uninformed about sex and what could happen if done without protection, so they just recklessly give in to their urges. As a result, many teenagers end up pregnant in fact, three out of ten girls in America anticipate having a baby before they reach the age of twenty. Although having a child is a wonderful thing, it can seem the total opposite when the parents are not at the proper age. There are many statistics that show the negative effect teen pregnancy has and it mostly affects the mothers. If children were educated in sex and how the reproductive system works, there would not be as much unplanned pregnancies as there are now
