Setting Limits on Guns in America

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states, that since there is a necessity for a Free State and regulated militia, the right of the American people to keep and bear arms would not be infringed by the United States government. One cannot stop and wonder the calamities that are caused by guns in their completely proper usage. This nation needs to have a talk over its malignant obsession with guns. Let those, who, of course, will reject such a policy, however strongly it is supported by evidence, tell us what they are going to do about gun violence. Improve mental health services? A good idea, assuming they will vote for the required spending, as well as recognize that there is no way such an improvement will make more than a marginal difference given the difficulties in both diagnosing who is prone to violence and in treating those individuals. Enforce the laws on the books? Let them remove the blocks they have put in place to prevent these laws from being enforced. There are many viable options to debate for gun control, even if domestic disarmament does not become the norm, but it at least, can move the discussion to the left more. If concessions are given before the argument begins then one will not be successful in debating and controlling gun violence. Multitudes of facts about gun violence hinder the belief many have for keeping their weapons. One of the most logical and most disturbing facts is that shooting sprees are not rare in the United States. “Since 1982, there have been at least 61 mass murders carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii, and in most cases, the killers had obtained their weapons legally” (Klein). The United States should cease it obsession with weapons and at least attempt to hinder this development with any means necessary. This nation must limit the amounts of weapons in the hands of criminals and those that would use them incorrectly. Works Cited Florida, Richard.
