Server Hardware
The Server Computer
The hardware’s in a server computer are very similar to those found in common client computers. However, server computers are designed to perform complex functions using high-grade computing components. These components include motherboard, processor, network connection, memory, hard drive, power supply and video adapter. The computer’s main electrical circuit is located on the motherboard. The other key components found in the motherboard include the CPU, chipset, graphics adapter, standard IDE hardware controllers, networking interface, I/O ports, expansion slots and memory. The processor, on the other hand, is the brain behind the computer. Computer processors are designed to run on servers that are specially created for this purpose. Intel is a leading maker of computer processors; examples of Intel server processors include Xeon, Pentium D and Itanium 2. These processors feature high clock speeds with one or more processor cores. Server computer processors are usually very powerful to enable them undertake complex processes. Network connection is a key component of server computers; most servers come with motherboards fitted with network adapters.
Server Upgrading
Today’s servers are designed to last for longer periods; however, the idea of keeping up with new data center demands, requires constant hardware upgrade. The main reasons for undertaking server upgrade include; need to extend the server’s life, need to get the most out of the existing servers, the need to make use of the old data center hardware and implications of virtualization. Server virtualization is a critically networking function because it makes one server act as many servers; each with unique applications and Operatin...

One of the new generation server’s is the HP ProLiant Generation 9 designed to deliver benefits such as higher compute capacity, enhancing application workload performance and ensuring speedy delivery of services to attain better business outcomes. The other feature on this server included a 40GB Ethernet, which includes both LAN on Motherboard and Network Interface Card adapters for blade and rack servers. The memory upgrade from Generation 8 servers is a leap from DDR3 memory and clock speeds of 1866 MHz to a system that supports DDR4 memory with optimal clock speeds reaching 2133 MHz. HP’s Generation 9 servers will be the first line of HP servers to feature UEFI Secure Boot. Under this new security feature, a cryptographically-signed picture of an OS is used to perform system boot up.
Virtualizing your server lets you run different Operating Systems, such as Windows and Linux, in different virtual servers on the same physical server. Once you have one virtual server configured, you can use that same configuration to set up new virtual servers, which takes just a few minutes. Compared to the hours it takes to configure a new physical server, server virtualization is far more efficient (Marshall, 2011).
Processor (CPU) – The processor, also known as the Central Processing Unit runs the operating system and other applications. It is constantly receiving data from the user or other active software. The data is then processed and then an output is produced which either will be displayed on screen or stored by an application.
For that hardware virtualisation is more beneficial to handle all servers together and provide data from data centre of server to user virtual desktop.
Building a gaming computer may be an intimidating endeavour, but in all actuality with a little hard work anyone can be a whiz at putting together a gaming computer. Why build a custom gaming PC? Well it’ll save money, and give the builder a great experience. It’s always fun to learn how different things work. The price of a top of the line retail gaming computer runs from two thousand on up to five thousand dollars and beyond, a monitor alone could cost one thousand dollars. The two types of gaming PC builds are , the hardcore gamer build which will cost a little extra, and the casual gamer build which isn’t as expensive; moreover, the steps in building a gaming PC are: creating a budget, researching what the builder/user wants the PC to be used for, and purchasing the equipment.
To meet and respond to its customers needs, IBM creates, develops and manufactures many of the worlds most advanced technologies, ranging from computer systems and software to networking systems, storage devices and microelectronics. Indeed, IBM has various product lines and services a few of which are: the Personal Computer that was first created in 1981, AS/400 business system, RS/6000 family of workstations and server systems, S/390 enterprise server, groundbreaking ThinkPad notebook computer; the award-winning IBM Netfinity and finally, PC Servers. It is an important supplier of hard disks, random access memories, and liquid crystal monitors.
To begin with, virtualization reduces hardware costs by reducing consolidating equipment. Initially, Seabreeze will reduce the physical server infrastructure by 70%. The project will upgrade the data center to 21 energy efficient servers with enough resources (CPUs, networking, memory, and disk storage) to host the virtual infrastructure. As for storage, the VMs will be stored on a storage area network (SAN). That is to say, the server cluster will be connected to a petabyte SAN for data
Building a computer can be a useful skill in today's world. It allows you to
Server-based networks are higher in cost because money is invested for dedicated servers, network operating software, and network administrators with technical expertise required for network management and configuration. On a small network consisting of fewer than five workstations, client/server architecture is not recommended and is very costly.
Computers are one of the most popular kinds of electronic devices in the world today. Whether kid or adult, male or female, everyone wants to learn how to operate the computer. People use computers for different purposes such as typing papers, creating websites, making presentations, browsing on the internet, playing games, etc. In fact, many people are still confused about choosing what kind of computer they want to buy. In the world today, there are two types of computers: notebook/laptop and desktop. They both are actually very different in several ways. In this paper, I will compare the size, connectivity, power, and price of notebook and desktop computers. I can make these comparisons because I have both a notebook and a desktop computer in my apartment.
A CPU has various discrete units to help it in these tasks for example there is an arithmetic and logic unit(ALU) that takes care of all the math and logical data comparisons that need to performed. A control register makes sure everything happens in the right sequence. The motherboard is the main circuit board inside the PC. All other components are either slotted into or soldered to this board.
As we all know virtualization is the requirement of future. We have evolved from the age of traditional environment to virtual environment. We have grown accustomed to almost all things virtual from virtual memory to virtual networks to virtual storage. The most widely leveraged benefit of virtualization technology is server consolidation, enabling one server to take on the workloads of multiple servers. For example, by consolidating a branch office’s print server, fax server, exchange server, and web server on a single windows server, businesses reduce the costs of hardware, maintenance, and staffing.
A processor is the chip inside a computer which carries out of the functions of the computer at various speeds. There are many processors on the market today. The two most well known companies that make processors are Intel and AMD. Intel produces the Pentium chip, with the most recent version of the Pentium chip being the Pentium 3. Intel also produces the Celeron processor (Intel processors). AMD produces the Athlon processor and the Duron processor (AMD presents).

A computer is a device which is used for several applications; business, gaming, or school. It’s important for people to know how computers work because in this day and age, operating a computer is an everyday task. This complex electrical device utilizes several parts inside of it to keep itself cool, conduct the proper tasks, and maintain stability. These devices can be found several places whether it be on the job, in one’s room, or on a school campus. Computers are essential for everyday use in order to complete what is required. What each component is and its function will be described.
In designing a computer system, architects consider five major elements that make up the system's hardware: the arithmetic/logic unit, control unit, memory, input, and output. The arithmetic/logic unit performs arithmetic and compares numerical values. The control unit directs the operation of the computer by taking the user instructions and transforming them into electrical signals that the computer's circuitry can understand. The combination of the arithmetic/logic unit and the control unit is called the central processing unit (CPU). The memory stores instructions and data.
